Mulayam Singh Yadav's Mortal Remains Reach Ancestral Village Saifai, Last Rites Tomorrow. Key Points

Former Uttar Pradesh CM died Monday in Medanta hospital in Gurugram, where he was undergoing treatment.

New Delhi: The mortal remains of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of the Samajwadi Party (SP), arrived at his native Saifai village on Monday, hours after the leader died at a Gurugram hospital. Former Uttar Pradesh CM died Monday in Medanta hospital in Gurugram, where he was undergoing treatment. Mulayam, 82, was admitted to the hospital in August, was shifted to ICU on October 2 and was on lifesaving drugs since. According to hospital sources, he breathed his last at 8.15 a.m. on Monday.

Here are the key developments:

- The mortal remains of Mulayam have been kept at the Saifai festival ground for “darshan” and the cremation will take place on Tuesday afternoon.

- It has been kept at the Saifai ground for "darshan" and the cremation will occur on Tuesday evening.

- Besides a large number of people, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, previous MP Dharmendra Yadav and other relatives were available when the body was taken out from a rescue vehicle.

- Mulayam's sibling Shivpal Yadav was seen comforting Akhilesh Yadav, putting his hand on his shoulder as the latter broke down.

- Soon after the body was laid for the last "darshans", Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh and BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary arrived and paid their tributes. They also extended their condolences to Akhilesh Yadav.

- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Chhatisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, and Bihar CM Nitesh Kumar are likely to arrive. 

- In order to mark respect to their leader, the traders in the district have decided to keep the markets closed on October 11.

- The funeral proceedings will be held with state honours, the Uttar Pradesh government announced earlier.

- On Monday, the convoy left for Saifai with Netaji's body from Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. During this, the cavalcade proceeded from Mahamaya to Noida via Delhi's Greater Noida Expressway via Noida.
