'Was Inside': NCP MLA's Home Set On Fire By Maratha Quota Activists, CM Shinde Warns Protest 'Taking Wrong Turn'

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde on Monday warned pro-Maratha reservation protestors after NCP MLA Prakash Solanke's Beed residence was put on fire.

Maratha Quota Row: Agitators seeking Maratha reservation on Monday put on fire NCP MLA Prakash Solanke's home in Beed district. Solanke said he was inside his residence when the incident took place, but expressed relief as no one from his family or staff were injured. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde warned pro-Maratha reservation protestors and its leader Manoj Jarange Patil over the incident and said Patil must take note of the fact turn this protest is taking, adding that it is going in the "wrong direction".

"Manoj Jarange Patil (Maratha reservation activist) should take note of the fact what turn this protest is taking. It is going in the wrong direction," Shinde said.

NCP MLA Prakash Solanke said that none of his family or staff were injured in the incident. "I was inside my home when it was attacked. Fortunately, none of my family members or staff were injured. We are all safe but there is a huge loss of property due to fire," he said, as quoted by ANI.

NCP MP Supriya Sule called the incident a "failure" of the Home Minister of Maharashtra and the state government. "This is a complete failure of the Home Minister of Maharashtra and the government. This is the failure of triple engine govt in Maharashtra. Today an MLA's house is set on fire, what is the Home Ministry and Home Minister doing? It is their responsibility..." she said.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anil Desai said sporadic violent incidents are taking place in the state, adding that non-challengeable reservation should be carved out adhering to the norms set by the Supreme Court and the Constitution.

"These are sporadic events which are taking place. There is unrest in the society.  Non-challengeable reservation should be carved out adhering to the norms set by the Supreme Court and as per the Constitution," he said.
