Man Arrested For Trying To Enter Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's Kolkata House. Arms, Contraband Recovered
A man has been arrested by Kolkata police for trying to enter the residence of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.
Kolkata Police on Friday arrested a man with arms for trying to enter West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence, reported news agency PTI. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal said that the man, identified as Sheikh Noor Alam, was held while he was trying to enter the lane near Banerjee's residence, as per ANI. The police have recovered contraband substances and several ID cards of different agencies from the man, ANI citing Goyal as saying.
"Kolkata Police has intercepted one person, identified as Sheikh Noor Alam, near CM Mamata Banerjee’s residence while he was trying to enter the lane. One firearm, one knife & contraband substances found on him besides several ID cards of different agencies. He was travelling in a car with a Police sticker on it. Police, STF & Special Branch are examining and questioning him at Local Police Station," the commissioner said.

According to PTI, the man wearing a black coat and tie and was arrested after he tried to drive a car with a 'Police' sticker to Banerjee's residence on Harish Chatterjee Street. Goyal said that Banerjee was at her home when the incident took place.
As mentioned earlier, the man was carrying arms, one khukri, ganja and identity cards of different agencies like BSF and others. He wanted to meet the CM, PTI said.
"This is a serious issue. We are trying to find out what was his actual purpose," Goyal said, as quoted by PTI. The vehicle was also seized. Goyal further said that the man was talking incoherently. Notably, the incident happened hours before the TMC chief is scheduled to leave her residence to reach the 'Martyr's Day' rally venue in the central part of the city.
