Mamata Meets Uddhav Thackeray In Mumbai, Says ‘Khela Has Begun’ As She Casts Doubts On Modi Govt's Survival

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee doubts the stability of the BJP-led NDA government, suggesting it may not complete its term. This statement comes after she meets with Uddhav Thackeray.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed doubt on Friday about the stability of the BJP-led NDA government. She suggested that due to the instability of the center, it may not complete its term. This statement came during her visit to Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray at his residence `Matoshree' in the Maharashtra's Bandra area.

"This government may not continue also. This is not a stable government," she said. "Khela (the game) has begun, It will go on," she also said, news agency PTI reported.

After Mamata meet with Thackeray, said "I will definitely come to Maharashtra to campaign for Uddhav ji during elections," ANI reported.

Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Trinamool Congress led by Banerjee are both members of the Opposition's I.N.D.I.A coalition. This marked their first meeting since the Lok Sabha elections, highlighting their strong bond.

The West Bengal CM also mentioned during her meeting that no one was consulted when bills on three new laws - the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) -- that replaced the Indian Penal Code(IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure(CrPC) and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively, were introduced in Parliament.

The three criminal law amendment bills were passed during a period when a large number of MPs were suspended, she stated, adding that many people are afraid of these laws. "We do not support the Emergency....(but) charity begins at home," she asserted.

Referring to the defeat of the Shiv Sena candidate from the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha seat by just 48 votes, Banerjee said similar victories were achieved in many other constituencies.

Regarding the I.N.D.I.A alliance in her state, she stated that the TMC couldn't make an alliance with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) because her party came to power by opposing the Left Front.

Banerjee stressed that it was "absolutely unethical" to strip the name and symbol of Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, though she praised the faction for fighting like a tiger. The Shiv Sena split in June 2022, with the party name and 'bow and arrow' symbol being awarded to the faction led by CM Eknath Shinde.

The Bengal CM expressed her interest in campaigning for Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) in the Maharashtra assembly elections, expected to be held in October-November.

Later in the day, Banerjee met another key I.N.D.I.A grouping NCP-SCP leader Sharad Pawar, at his residence 'Silver Oak' in south Mumbai.

Mamata Banerjee's Mumbai Visits

She arrived in Mumbai on Thursday for the wedding of industrialist Mukesh Ambani's son Anant Ambani. Before flying for the wedding, she said, "I'm going to Mumbai as you all know that Mukeshji's son is getting married. They have extended the invitation multiple times and Mukeshji has himself attended Biswa Bangla (Bengal business summit) multiple times upon Bengal's invitation. I probably wouldn't have gone but since Mukeshji, his son and Nitaji repeatedly urged me to go, I decided to attend the event."

"I have made an appointment with Uddhav tomorrow for political talks since we haven't met since the elections. I will also go to Sharadji's place and have made an appointment to meet him as well. Akhilesh is also reaching tomorrow and I might meet him as well," Banerjee also said, TOI reported.

On June 4, when the Lok Sabha election results were declared, Thackeray had a conversation with Mamata Banerjee, advocating that the I.N.D.I.A bloc should assert its claim to establish a government at the Center.

Thackeray subsequently informed the media stating that he had discussed this with Banerjee in this regard, who expressed her agreement. Last year, during a visit to Matoshree, Banerjee also tied a rakhi on Thackeray as she attended an I.N.D.I.A bloc gathering in the city.
