Wayanad Landslides: PM Modi's Full Schedule

PM Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in Kannur at 11:00 AM on August 10. The officials told PTI that Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other top state government officials are scheduled to greet Prime Minister Modi upon his arrival in Kannur. Following his arrival, Modi will conduct an aerial survey of the landslide-affected areas in Wayanad beginning around 12:15 PM.

In addition to meeting with rescue workers, the Prime Minister is expected to visit a relief camp and a hospital where many of the survivours are currently receiving care. Modi will interact with the affected residents and listen to their concerns.

Later in the day, Modi will chair a review meeting with officials to discuss the relief efforts in greater detail. This meeting will cover the extent of the damage, the progress of the ongoing operations, and the resources needed to continue the recovery process effectively, according to a report on The Hindustan Times.

Rahul Gandhi Expresses Gratitude To PM

On the visit, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and former Wayanad MP, expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister for his planned visit. On Friday, Gandhi took to social media to thank Modi, stating, "This is a good decision. I am confident that once the Prime Minister sees the extent of the devastation firsthand, he will declare it a national disaster."

The landslides, which occurred on July 30, have resulted in significant loss of life and property in Wayanad. Official reports indicate that at least 226 people have lost their lives, with many others still missing. The disaster is being regarded as one of the most severe natural calamities to have struck Kerala in recent history.

So far, the NDRF rescue teams have successfully rescued 30 individuals, evacuated 520 people, and recovered 112 bodies. To assess the situation, the Central Government has formed an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT), which is scheduled to visit the affected regions from August 8th to 10th.
