Key Accused Among 8 Arrested In Ex-Bajrang Dal Member Suhas Shetty Murder Case
Suhas Shetty, reportedly linked to the Bajrang Dal, was attacked near Bajpe bus stand in Mangaluru around 8:30 PM on Thursday.

Eight persons, including the main accused, have been arrested by Mangaluru police in connection with the murder of Suhas Shetty on Saturday. Earlier, Karnataka police launched a high-priority investigation into the killing of the key accused in the 2022 murder of Mohammed Fazil and intensifying efforts by deploying four dedicated special teams to track down the perpetrators.
Suhas Shetty, reportedly linked to the Bajrang Dal, was attacked near the Bajpe bus stand in Mangaluru around 8:30 PM on Thursday. Witnesses say a group of assailants armed with blunt weapons assaulted Shetty in public view before fleeing the scene. He was rushed to a local hospital but died from his injuries shortly after.
State Home Minister G Parameshwara, addressing the media, condemned the brutal act and vowed swift justice. "A gruesome murder has occurred in Mangaluru city at around 8:30 pm on Thursday. We have already taken note of it and we have in fact set up four different teams to catch the culprits. We are going to bring them to book. We will not have any compromise on this," Parameshwara on Friday said, as per a report on PTI.
Unrest In Mangaluru
The murder triggered unrest across Mangaluru, prompting the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to suspend some suburban bus services after incidents of stone-pelting were reported in Pumpwell and Kankanady. In response to escalating tensions, Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), empowering authorities to prevent potential violence. The restrictions came into force on May 2 at 6 AM and will remain active until 5 AM on May 6.
Authorities disclosed that Shetty had a history of serious criminal allegations. He faced five cases in total, including two for murder. While he had been acquitted in two cases and convicted in one, the remaining charges were still under judicial consideration at the time of his death.
