Siddaramaiah Hits Back At BJP Questioning Law & Order In K'taka: ‘Haven’t Rapes Happened During Their Regime?’

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, R. Ashoka, criticised the Congress-led Karnataka government over the alleged rape and accused it of failing to maintain law and order.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday questioned the criticism of BJP citing alleged law and order issues in the state following the alleged rape of a woman at KR Market in Bengaluru on Sunday night. The victim, who was waiting for a bus to Yelahanka, was allegedly lured by two men under the pretext of showing her the bus route. She was taken to Godown Street, where the culprits raped her. 

Reacting to the BJP's accusations of a rise in crimes under the Congress government, Siddaramaiah, speaking in Belagavi, said, "Haven't rapes taken place during the BJP regime? Anti-social elements in the society do such things. We will take stringent action against them."

However, the CM also assured to against the crimes. 

The BJP, led by Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka, has demanded the resignation of Home Minister G. Parameshwara, citing a surge in crimes such as robbery, murder, rape, and atrocities against vulnerable sections of society. Ashoka, criticised the Congress government over the alleged rape, accusing it of failing to maintain law and order.

"Law and order in the state has collapsed to the bottom. The common people are living in fear. There is no environment where girls can move around safely. How long will you continue to run such a bad government by clinging to your chair? Resign from your position and free the people of the state from this misrule and anarchy," he posted on X.


On Sunday, the crime came to light after the victim filed a complaint with the Bengaluru Central Women's Police Station, the police arrested two suspects in connection with the incident. "The incident happened in SJ Park. The complaint pertains to extortion and sexual assault. Two people have been arrested," Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda told reporters in Bengaluru.
