Karnataka: Mysuru Businessman Dies During Trekking Expedition In Leh

Naren Kaushil passed away on the same day despite efforts by the accompanying doctors to revive him during a trek from Haryana to Leh.

A 44-year-old businessman from Karnataka passed away due to respiratory complications while on a trekking expedition in Leh, Jammu and Kashmir. The deceased Naren Kaushil, the son of Prof RN Padmanabha, the retired Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Maharaja's Degree College in Mysuru, was an experienced trekker and nature enthusiast, according to a report on Deccan Herald.

Naren was employed as a Deputy Manager in Medical Equipment wing of GE Electricals in Bengaluru. His career spanned various countries, including the U.S., the Middle East, the UK, and Germany. Apart from his professional achievements, he was known for his love for nature and adventure, having participated in numerous trekking expeditions across Karnataka and the Himalayas. Naren was also an active member of the JCE cricket and shuttle badminton teams.

Naren embarked on a trek from Haryana to Leh on September 4, accompanied by seven friends from North India, two doctors, and two Sherpas. However, he developed severe respiratory problems at an altitude of 18,000 feet. Despite efforts by the accompanying doctors to revive him, he passed away on the same day, as per a report on Mysooru News.

His family was informed of his death on September 8 and his body was handed over to them upon reaching Leh on September 9. His last rites were performed on the morning of September 10.

Mysuru District In-charge Minister H.C. Mahadevappa, Chief Minister’s Media Advisor K.V. Prabhakar, and Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy coordinated with Leh District Commissioner Santosh Sukhadeve to provide all necessary support to the family in completing the formalities.

Last month, a UP man died due to oxygen deficiency in Leh during solo bike ride. He reportedly suffered from Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), characterised by headaches, nausea and shortness of breath.
