J&K: Unprovoked Firing By Pakistan Along Jammu Border, BSF Retaliates

BSF Jammu public relations officer said that the BSF gave a "befitting reply" to the firing from across the border in the Arnia sector of Jammu district.

New Delhi: Pakistan on Thursday violated the ceasefire as it targeted Border Security Force (BSF) troops in unprovoked firing along the International Border in the RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said.

According to the BSF, the firing took place around 8 pm and it is still on.

According to news agency PTI, some BSF jawans were injured in the firing, but there was no official confirmation.

BSF Jammu public relations officer said that the BSF gave a "befitting reply" to the firing from across the border in the Arnia sector of Jammu district.

"Tonight at about 2000 hrs unprovoked firing started by Pak Rangers on BSF posts in Arnia area which is befittingly retaliated by BSF troops. The firing is still on," PRO BSF Jammu said.

Senior BSF officers were rushing to the spot, officials said.

Earlier in the day, five Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists were killed as security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition including five AK series rifles and other incriminating materials were recovered from the site of the gunfight in the Machhil sector, officials said.

Last week, BSF had lodged a protest with Pakistan Rangers over unprovoked cross-border firing along the Indo-Pak International Border in Jammu, in which two BSF personnel were injured, officials said.

The BSF took up the issue with Pakistan Rangers at a commandant-level flag meeting held at a border outpost (BoP) along the International Border (IB) in the RS Pura sector on Thursday evening, reported PTI.

Two BSF personnel were injured on Tuesday after Pakistan Rangers "resorted to unprovoked firing" on border guards along the IB at the Vikram BoP in the Arnia sector, according to officials.
