Haryana: 2 Cops Attacked By Sand Mafia In Nuh, Case Filed Against 18
The two policemen had gone to Hathangaon to check on a complaint related to illegal sand mining in the area.
At least two policemen sustained injuries after they were allegedly attacked by members of the mining mafia at a village in Haryana's Nuh district, news agency PTI reported, citing police. The two victims were identified as Lakhmichand and Maheshhad. The police said that the FIR was lodged into the matter against 18 people, including eight named, at the Punhana police station on Saturday night, as reported by PTI.
The named suspects were identified as Nasim, Jamshed, Yasin, Sahid, Wijid, Nasru, Khannu, and Kamma, they further stated. According to an official, teams are carrying out raids to apprehend the others. The victims had gone on Saturday to Hathangaon to check on a complaint related to illegal sand mining in the area.
According to the police, the victims were hospitalised after the incident, and a case has been registered in the matter. When the police personnel reached the spot, sand was being dug out by an excavator at a site in the Aravalli Hills. While trying to stop the operations, they were attacked, PTI reported, citing police.
The police further stated that the accused had fled the place by the time a backup team reached the area, and the excavator and two tractors had been seized.
Last month, a local revenue department official, known as a patwari, lost his life after being crushed by a tractor-trolley used for transporting sand illegally in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district. The incident took place around midnight on Saturday, police said on Sunday. The driver of the vehicle was arrested by police, reported PTI.
Deolond police station in-charge Rajkumar Mishra said that a patrolling team of government employees, including patwari Prasann Singh, intercepted the tractor-trolley transporting illegally mined sand near Son River in the Gopalpur area.
On reaching the river, as Singh attempted to stop it, the driver ran over him, which resulted in Singh's immediate death. The accused driver fled the scene with the vehicle.
