Haryana CM Saini On Migrant Worker's ‘Mob Lynching’: ‘Villagers Have So Much Respect For Cows That…’

Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini reacted to the killing of a Bengal migrant worker, who was lynched by five cow vigilantes in Charkhi Dadri earlier this week over suspicion of beef consumption.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reacted to the Charkhi Dadri lynching case, wherein a migrant worker from West Bengal was allegedly beaten to death by a group of cow vigilantes over suspicion that he had eaten beef. Arguing that the term "mob lynching" does not accurately describe the case, he said that the villagers worship the cow and if they sense any untoward situation then "who could stop them?"

"It is not right to say things like mob lynching, because a strict law has been made in the Assembly for cow protection and there is no compromise on it," the Haryana CM said.

"Villagers have so much respect for cows that if they are informed about such things, then who can stop them? I want to say that such incidents should not happen and these incidents are unfortunate," he added.

A 26-year-old migrant from Bengal, who earned his living by gathering rags and other scrap materials, was called by five cow vigilantes-- Abhishek, Ravinder, Mohit, Sahil, and Kamaljit--under the pretence of selling empty plastic bottles to him. As he reached near a local bus stand where they had tricked him to come, they began beating him. When passers-by intervened they took him to another place and began beating him again., which eventually led to his death.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Dheeraj Kumar told news agency ANI that a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered and that all the accused are currently in police remand.

"A migrant labourer was beaten to death by some people. A case has been registered under BNS and 7 people, including 2 juveniles, have been arrested. Police is working on the case actively and the accused have been taken on police remand and are being questioned," DSP Kumar said.
