Drunk Man Makes Hoax Call To Mumbai Police Claiming Terrorists Have Entered City, Arrested

The caller claimed that two to three terrorists had landed at Mankhurd's Ekta Nagar downmarket area and were only ostensibly 'planning something'. The Mumbai Police tracked the caller.

A man was arrested by Mumbai Police for calling up the Control Room in a drunken state and giving false tip-off that some terrorists entered Mumbai on Sunday, on the 15th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Police officials told news agency PTI that the caller claimed that two to three terrorists had landed at Mankhurd's Ekta Nagar downmarket area and were only ostensibly 'planning something'. The Mumbai Police swung into action right after the call and tracked the caller by using tech intel.

The Police identified the caller as Laxman Naravane and interrogated him while also investigating the tip-off as a standard precautionary measure.

Mumbai Police found that he was allegedly heavily drunk when he made the call and according to a preliminary probe, the information that he gave to the control room also turned out to be fake.

He was arrested and booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and further probe into the matter has been launched.

Earlier in August, Mumbai Police received another such call wherein the caller threatened of 'serial bomb blasts' in local trains. Similar to the aforementioned case, the police swung into action immediately and apprehended a 25-year-old man. A police official told PTI that the man was suspected to have made the call in an inebriated state.

The Police control room received another call during which the caller claimed that a bomb was planted inside a local train in Mumbai. The caller further warned that 'serial bomb blasts' were going to take place.

The caller added that he was calling from the Vile Parle area, said a police official.

Police acted immediately as soon as the call ended and traced the location of the caller's phone location. Then with the help of other technical evidence, they apprehended the man from Juhu, the suspected location from where he was believed to have made the call.
