Delhi Likely To Receive Another Spell Of Rain, Thunderstorm On Monday Night, Says IMD

The national capital on Monday recorded a minimum temperature of 17.2 degrees Celsius for Safdarjung by day's end - the base station for Delhi - nine notches lower than normal.

New Delhi: Residents of Delhi will most likely witness another spell of thunderstorms and rain accompanied by strong winds on Monday night, the India Meteorological Department has said. On Monday morning, heavy rainfall brought down the temperature drastically down in Delhi and its nearby areas, giving people a much-needed respite from the scorching heat. As per the IMD, at least for another six days, Delhi will unlikely be hit by intense heatwave conditions. 

The national capital on Monday recorded a minimum temperature of 17.2 degrees Celsius for Safdarjung by day's end - the base station for Delhi - nine notches lower than normal. The last time it had recorded such a lower minimum temperature in May was 16.7 degrees Celsius on May 1, 2004. The all-time lowest temperature recorded in Delhi till date is 15.2 degrees Celsius, which was recorded on May 2, 1982.

After rain and thunderstorm on Monday morning, there was barely any rain for the rest of the dayand it was bright and sunny.

"In association with Western Disturbances affecting northwest India, moderate to heavy rain fall accompanied with strong gusty winds of the order of 80 kmph occurred over Delhi NCR in the morning hours .This led to this lower minimum temperature," the IMD said.

While people got relief from the sweltering heat due to the heavy rain in Delhi-NCR since Monday morning, flights flying from Delhi were affected too during the rush hours. As per the information given by Delhi Airport, it was told that due to bad weather, the operation of flights at Delhi Airport was affected. As a precautionary measure, all passengers traveling should contact their respective airline to know the changes, new timing of their flight, and for related information.
