Delhi Court Extends TMC Leader Anubrata Mondal's Judicial Custody Till Thursday
Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Monday extended TMC leader Anubrata Mondal's judicial custody till May 4. The court has also reserved its order on Mondal's transfer plea.
A Delhi Court on Monday extended the judicial custody of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal till May 4 in connection with the cattle smuggling case. The court has reserved its order on the plea of transfer of Mondal from Delhi to Bengal Jail and will pronounce it on Thursday. The TMC leader was produced in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court following the expiration of his judicial custody.
His daughter, Sukanya Mondal was arrested earlier on April 26 for interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the same case. After hearing the submission of the special public prosecutor (SPP) and defence counsels, Special Judge Raghubeer Singh granted her custody to the ED for three days. The court, however, did allow the counsel to meet Sukanya during custody. It also directed the ED to get the accused medically examined every 48 hours, reported news agency ANI.
The law enforcement agency sought a remand of three days to trace the proceeds of the crime, follow the money trail and identify the modus operandi which was used.

She was also to be sat along with her father and be questioned in connection with the case.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh while commenting on her arrest said, "Sukanya, daughter of Anubrata Mondal, has been arrested. The law will take its own course. If she has done any wrong she has to suffer. Trinamool Congress will not defend her. But, in this particular case, we have a point," reported ANI.
Sukanta Majumdar, the state president of BJP stated that this was bound to happen because Sukanya had been called on multiple occasions previously but was not furnishing details concerning her account. Majumdar added that the ‘cattle smuggling’ is not likely to be restricted to one or two persons, but more names could emerge in days to come.
This was bound to happen. As per the information I received, she has been arrested by ED from Birbhum. The agency will come to know about the property found in her name. I think in the time to come, everything will come out in the open. I think several other names will also come… pic.twitter.com/qaWiDUULtN
