Covid: Maharashtra Records More Than 2,700 Cases, Highest In Four Months
Covid-19: Mumbai reported 1,765 fresh Covid-19 cases, up from 1,242 a day ago, the health department said.
Maharashtra registered 2,701 fresh Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, highest in nearly four months, the health department said. However, there were no deaths due to coronavirus. Active cases have increased to a little less than 10,000. The state had recorded 2,797 fresh cases on February 17 this year.
With the fresh cases, the state's overall infection tally rose to 78,98,815. The death toll stands at 11,47,866. On Tuesday, Maharashtra had reported 1,881 Covid-19 cases. The previous day, it logged 1,036 infections.
On Wednesday, Mumbai reported 1,765 fresh Covid-19 cases, up from 1,242 a day ago, recording a 42 per cent rise in infections, PTI reported. This is Mumbai's highest single day count since January 26. On January 26, Mumbai had seen 1,858 cases and 13 fatalities.
This is also the first time since February 2 that Mumbai has reported cases in four digits for two consecutive days.
With the new cases, the active caseload in the city has climbed to 7,000, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said in its bulletin.
Mumbai's overall Covid-19 tally increased to 10,73,541, but the death toll remained unchanged at 19,569 as no death occurred in the last 24 hours, according to the bulletin.
Out of the 24,598 hospital beds, only 293 are occupied. The recovery rate is at 98 per cent, the bulletin said. A total of 739 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours.
The development comes as daily coronavirus infections in India were recorded above 5,000 after 93 days, taking the total tally to 4,31,90,282, while the active cases rose to 28,857, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.
