Assam Floods: Man Wades Through Waist-Deep Water To Greet CM Himanta Sarma | WATCH

CM Sarma, during his Silchar visit, said that his government's priority is to restore electricity. The situation will be much better in the district if there is no rain in the next 24 hours, he added.

New Delhi: A resident of Assam’s Barak Valley area waded through waist-deep water to greet Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who visited the place to take stock of the flood situation on Saturday. Being helped by rescue operation personnel, the man can be seen reaching out to the Chief Minister to greet him with a ‘gamusa’, a piece of traditional Assam clothing. The video of the man has gone viral on the social media.

"I'll come sometime and have a cup of tea with you," the Chief Minister promised as he received the "gamusa." "I will come to your home when I visit Silchar next," he replied to another resident.

CM Sarma, during his Silchar visit on Saturday, said that his government's priority is to restore electricity. The situation will be much better in the district if there is no rain in the next 24 hours, he added.

Notably, 121 people have died due to floods and landslides across Assam so far and as many as 25 lakh people still remain affected in 25 districts of the state.

In Silchar, where the situation still remains grim, drones are being used to deliver essentials in flood-affected areas.

As per reports by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the flood situation in Assam's Morigaon district is on the verge of gradual improvement with flood water starting to recede.

At least four more people, including two children, died in the last 24 hours in the flood-hit state, according to reports. One death each was reported from Barpeta, Cachar, Darrang and Golaghat districts.
