Former YSRCP Minister's Son Arrested In Andhra Pradesh Over Alleged Land Scam

The investigation centers around irregularities in land dealings connected to AgriGold, a notorious ponzi scheme that defrauded numerous investors.

The Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended J Rajeev, the son of former minister and senior YSRCP leader J Ramesh, on Tuesday. The arrest is linked to a land scam allegedly involving Rajeev and his family.

The ACB officials carried out a raid at the leader’s residence in Vijayawada, where they reportedly seized documents related to the case. The investigation centers around irregularities in land dealings connected to AgriGold, a notorious ponzi scheme that defrauded numerous investors.

Revenue Minister A Satya Prasad stated that substantial evidence has been gathered implicating Ramesh’s family in the land scam.

During a press conference held at the state secretariat, Prasad said, as per PTI, "Jogi's family has appropriated an assets worth Rs 5 crore. An investigation unearthed that his family was involved in the scandal."

In response, J Ramesh vehemently criticized the arrest, accusing the TDP-led government under N Chandrababu Naidu of engaging in politically motivated actions against his family. Speaking to reporters outside the ACB office, Ramesh labeled the arrest as an act of personal vendetta and questioned the motives behind targeting his family.

Ramesh also suggested that the arrest was a tactic to divert public attention from the government’s unfulfilled promises, urging the administration to prioritize delivering on its electoral commitments, as per the report.

Several other YSRCP leaders, including V Srinivas, M Nagarjuna, and L Appi Reddy, condemned the arrest, expressing solidarity with Ramesh’s family.

Jogi Ramesh, who initially served in the Youth Congress, joined the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in 2013. He later became the state spokesperson for the party and contested the 2014 Assembly Elections from the Mylavaram constituency, but was defeated by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao. In 2019, he won the polls.

In the 2024 elections, Ramesh contested from the Penamaluru Assembly constituency but was defeated by Bode Prasad with a margin of 59,915 votes.
