Minor Hurt Due To Crude Bomb Blast In West Bengal's North 24 Parganas, Admitted To Hospital

A nine-year-old kid in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas got injured after he touched a crude bomb while thinking it was a ball.

A crude bomb explosion in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Sunday left a nine-year-old boy injured. The kid is a student of class fourth. He got injured in Basirhat Block 2 when he touched a crude bomb lying in the field close to his house while thinking it was a ball, said a police official while talking to the news agency PTI. The boy was immediately rushed to a local hospital in Basirhat after the incident. Unfortunately, his condition kept deteriorating due to which he was referred to R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The boy's right hand got injured in the explosion, said doctors while talking to PTI.

A police official said that a blast team was rushed to the spot as soon as the information was received and an investigation into the matter is being carried out, PTI reported.

In another recent event that was similar to this, two children got injured in the same district on July 8 after they picked up a crude bomb from the roadside while thinking it was a ball. The incident occurred in Bhangor amid polling for panchayat elections in the state. An official told the news agency PTI, "The two children mistook the crude bomb for a ball, and as one of them touched it, it went off. Security forces were sent to the area to find if any more bombs were there." The injured got admitted to a hospital immediately. One of the injured was eight years old and the other was ten years old, reported by PTI.

In another incident, a crude bomb went off last month in a mango orchard in West Bengal leading to the death of one person and leaving three injured. Twenty-six-year-old Alim Sheikh got critically injured in the incident in Murshidabad district and was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead. The three that survived were treated in the same hospital, said a police official. The deceased hailed from Kapasdanga village in Beldanga and had a history of criminal records, reported news agency PTI.
