'Don't Play In IPL If...': Kapil Dev's Straightforward Advice To Players Ahead Of T20 WC - WATCH

Former India skipper Kapil Dev, who never shies away from sharing his views, said that players can never feel pressure if they are enjoying the sport.

New Delhi: 1983 World Cup winning skipper Kapil Dev has given blunt advice to cricketers ahead of T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The ex-India skipper said players should not play IPL if it's affecting their mental and physical health. The 63-year-old, who never shies away from sharing his views, said that players can never feel pressure if they are enjoying the sport. During a felicitation ceremony at Taj Palace, Kapil Dev said, "Aaj Kal I listen a lot on TV because there is a lot of pressure. There is a lot of pressure playing IPL. So I want to say only one thing: don't play. If players have passion then there should be no pressure. We play to enjoy and there can be no pressure in the enjoyment." He further said, "If a player has passion, then there will be no pressure."

Many players have been injured while playing in IPL. India's T20 specialist bowler T Natarajan got injured while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL. All-rounder Washington Sundar was also injured during the IPL. New Zealand pacer Adam Milne also suffered an injury while playing his first match in IPL 2022 and was ruled out of the tournament.

Last month, a massive controversy erupted after India's Deepti Sharma had 'mankad run-out' England's Charlotte Dean at the non-striker's end during India vs England women's ODI at Lords. India The run-out helped India win the match and ODI series against England 3-0.

Sharing his views on the controversy, Kapil had said," In a situation like this, I feel instead of intense debates every time - there should be a simple rule. Deprive the batsmen of their run. It should be deemed a short run. It's a better solution in my mind."
