T20 World Cup: Ashwin Addresses Bowling Concerns, Compares 'Field Dimensions' Of India & Australia

Team India will play two official warm-up matches in Brisbane before their opening T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in Melbourne on 23rd October.

New Delhi: Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin feels that short boundaries in India's grounds cause the bowlers to enter defensive mode while the bigger grounds in Australia will give a chance to the bowlers to take an aggressive approach. Even in the recently concluded India vs South Africa T20 International series, Indian bowlers were hammered by Proteas batters for over 200 runs on two occasions in the three T20Is. When senior spinner Ashwin was asked to share his opinion on India's recent lackluster bowling performance, he justified by comparing the field dimensions of India and Australia.

"Look we can get caught up with what happens in T20 games and in bilateral series back at home," Ashwin said during a presser after India's first warm up game against Western Australia XI on Monday. India defeated Western Australia by 13 runs to get the much-needed confidence ahead of their two official ICC warm up games against Australia and New Zealand.

“It's only fair to say the bowlers are getting hit around the park but we also need to understand the boundaries are very close to the 30-yard circle in India. When we come to Australia, the boundaries are far bigger, gives the bowlers a bit of license to work with.”

Ashwin asserted how crucial it will be for the bowlers to understand Australian conditions to bowl at correct line and length.

"It's also very important to understand these conditions, the lengths you have to bowl and be brave enough to take those 50-50 options in these places.

“It's a completely new experience, just start fresh, start the book completely new,” the spinner added.

Team India will play two official warm-up matches in Brisbane before their opening T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in Melbourne on 23rd October. Rohit Sharma & Co are currently practicing in Perth before leaving for Brisbane.
