Paris Olympics 2024 The Last Games Of Pre-Artificial Intelligence Era: IOC President In Mumbai
The Paris Games prepare to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) in every facet, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach during the 141st IOC Session on Saturday
The 2024 Paris Olympics will signify the end of an era as the Games prepare to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) in every facet, declared International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach during the 141st IOC Session on Saturday. Bach expressed his perspective on the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, considering them a transformational moment in the history of the Games. He observed that the 2024 Olympics would be a milestone event, marking the culmination of the era before the extensive integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the world of sports.
AI's role in the Olympics, as emphasised by Bach, carries the potential to revolutionise every facet of the Games. “As we all know, the Olympic Games are the most complex event in the world. AI will help to reduce, streamline, and optimise the work of Organising Committees in all aspects of planning and running the Games – down to the smallest detail. Running the Olympic Village more efficiently, managing spectator-flows, transportation and venues… The list goes on. All of this will make the organisation extremely efficient,” he declared.
Furthermore, President Bach underlined the pivotal role of AI in the realm of sports broadcasting, foreseeing a significant reduction in the workforce required to produce and broadcast high-quality content during the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. The integration of AI promises to redefine the landscape of sports broadcasting significantly.
"Another dimension of this digital revolution is esports. There are 3 billion people playing esports and gaming around the world. It is estimated that over 500 million of them are interested specifically in esports which includes virtual sports and sport simulations. What is even more relevant to us: a majority of them are under the age of 34," said International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach.
The President also announced the formation of the IOC e-sports Commission, dedicated to studying the development of Olympic e-sports Games. In his view, AI and e-sports represent two vital opportunities for the Olympic movement to seize. He urged for a new mindset to effectively harness these opportunities while managing associated risks.
Additionally, President Bach commended India's thriving Olympic spirit and its outstanding performance at the recent Asian Games in Hangzhou, which secured a record-breaking medal haul. He viewed India as a nation that amalgamates a rich history with a dynamic present, expressing confidence in a promising future.
The 141st IOC Session, hosted in India after a 40-year hiatus, was graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the presence of distinguished Indian sports figures and sports federation representatives.
