Neeraj Chopra Loses Paris Olympics Gold Medal To Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, Wins India's First Silver In France

While the Neeraj Chopra produced a season best performance, it wasn't enough for him to bag the gold as Pakistan's Arsahd Nadeem set a New Olympic record.

Neeraj Chopra bagged a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 with a best throw of 89.45 metres in the men's javelin throw final after winning a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.  While the Indian produced a season best performance, it wasn't enough for him to bag the gold as Pakistan's Arsahd Nadeem set a New Olympic record with a never-seen-before Olympic throw of 92.97 metres.

Arshad's Olympic record throw helped Pakistan bag its first medal in the Olympics since the Barcelona Olympics 1992, becoming only the third individual gold medallist from the South Asian country.

Neeraj Chopra had sealed India's first-ever track and field goal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 with a best throw of 87.58 metres, a mark he bettered with his monster qualification throw of 89.34 metres in his only attempt. However, as it turned out, he had more left in his tank which he showed in the final with a massive throw of 89.45 metres to seal a silver medal.

Notably, Chopra had been dealing with a groin injury in the build up to the Paris Olympics 2024 and was very choosy about the competitions he was participating in, leaving doubt over his performance in the French capital. However, all such doubts were put to rest with his qualification throw.

Neeraj Chopra Only Second Indian Male Athlete To Win Back-To-Back Olympic Medals In Individual Event

From Neeraj's high standards, the silver medal may seem underwhelming for Indian fans but make no mistake this is remarkable achievement for the Indian athlete, becoming only the country's second male athlete since Sushil Kumar to win back-to-back Olympic medals in individual events.

Chopra becomes the first Indian athlete in Paris Olympics 2024 to win a silver medal for India which had helped India take a jump in the medals tally. Grenada's Anderson Peters finished third with a best throw of 88.54 metres to claim the bronze medal.
