Nagpur Violence: Curfew Lifted In Nandanvan, Kapil Nagar; 91 Arrested So Far
Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravindra Singhal said the curfew will remain fully enforced in all areas under Kotwali, Tehsil, and Ganesh Peth police stations.

The Nagpur officials lifted the curfew in Nandanvan and Kapil Nagar police stations on Thursday, days after violence erupted over the demand to remove the grave of Aurangzeb, police said.
Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravindra Singhal stated that after assessing the entire situation, the curfew imposed in areas under Nandanvan and Kapil Nagar police stations has been completely lifted as of 2 PM today.
"So far, 91 people have been arrested in connection with the Nagpur violence case, including 80 adults and 11 minors," he added. In the areas of Lakadganj, Panchpaoli, Shanti Nagar, Shakkardara, and Imamwada, curfew restrictions have been eased. A relaxation period has been granted from 2 PM to 4 PM for essential work and purchasing necessary items, Singhal further said.
However, the curfew will remain fully enforced in all areas under Kotwali, Tehsil, and Ganesh Peth police stations. We are in the process of verifying all details related to the case. Faheem Khan can be considered the prime accused, and his background is currently under investigation. The situation across Nagpur is peaceful at the moment, and further decisions will be made soon, the Commissioner confirmed.
Additionally, Minority Democratic Party (MDP) leader Faheem Shamim Khan, who is considered the main accused in the Nagpur violence case, has also been charged in a cybercrime case. The cyber team has registered an FIR against him for sedition. A total of six people have been named in this FIR.
Nagpur Police's Cyber Cell is making extensive preparations to take action against rioters on social media. The Cyber Cell is now working on identifying those involved in the violence.
The Violence
Just hours before violence erupted in Nagpur, rumours began spreading that a ‘chadar’ or symbolic grave bearing holy inscriptions had been set on fire during a VHP-led demonstration demanding the removal of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb. This incident is believed to have been the main catalyst for the unrest, according to several media reports.
As the rumors intensified, a group of around 50 to 60 people, reportedly led by Minority Democratic Party (MDP) leader Fahim Khan, assembled outside the Ganeshpeth police station to submit a memorandum opposing the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's protest. This was soon followed by large-scale demonstrations involving hundreds of people, leading to incidents of stone pelting and arson.
