Arjun Babuta Puts Up A Spirited Show In Men's 10m Air Rifle Final At Paris Olympics 2024, Misses Out On Medal

Paris Olympics 2024: Arjun Babuta put up a great display of marksmanship in the men's 10m air rifle final at the Paris Games but missed out on the bronze medal as he finished fourth.

India shooter Arjun Babuta finished fourth, missing out on a bronze medal finish, as he faced an elimination in the 10m air rifle men's final at the Chateauroux shooting range in the Paris Olympics 2024 on July 30 (Monday). Despite maintaining strong scores throughout the event, a 9.5 on his final shot cost him a medal. 

At the end of Series 2, Arjun Babuta was at third spot looking all set for a bronze medal but after shot 17 and 18, Arjun Babuta slipped at fourth spot. He shot a 10.5 and a 10.1, putting him in the Eliminations. Arjun remained at the fourth spot after shots 19 and 20 respectively as he shot 10.5 and 9.5.

Arjun's scores in Series 2 read: 10.7, 10.5, 10.4, 10.6 and 10.4 and his scores after Series 1 read: 10.7, 10.2, 10.5, 10.4 and 10.6.

Croatia’s Miran Maricic clinched the bronze with a total score of 230. China’s Sheng Lihao set a new Olympic record with a gold-winning score of 252.2, while Sweden’s Victor Lindgren secured the silver with 251.4.

In the qualification series, Babuta scored 630.1 over 60 shots, placing seventh and becoming the third Indian shooter to reach a final at the Paris 2024 Games. Manu Bhaker was the first, winning a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol, followed by Ramita Jindal, who finished seventh in the women’s 10m air rifle final.

Babuta’s near-miss follows Ramita Jindal’s earlier disappointment, making him the second Indian shooter to fall short of a medal on the same day.

Who Is Arjun Babuta?

Arjun Babuta is an Indian 10m air rifle shooter who has won five gold medals in various events throughout his career. Babuta, who comes from a middle-class family in the Jalalabad region of Punjab near the India-Pakistan border, completed his primary education in his hometown. Later, he and his family relocated to Chandigarh due to his father's job with Indian Railways.
