LIVE SCORES | MUMBAI INDIANS vs GUJARAT LIONS | IPL 2016 | MUMBAI

 FULL SCORECARD

Brilliant batting display by Aaron Finch. He came, he scored and he conquered. Finch was injured but he ensured that Gujarat Lions cross the line. It was his third consecutive fifty in the tournament. Mitchell McClenaghan should also be praised for his excellent bowling. He took 4 wickets for just 21 runs. It was a low target to defend by Mumbai did really well to make a match out of it. Unfortunately for them, Finch was more determined. Gujarat Lions Innings

  • WICKET! McClenaghan has changed the complexion of this match. Another wicket in the over. Praveen Kumar out for a duck. Praveen Kumar c Patel b McClenaghan 0 (2b 0x4 0x6).
  • WICKET! McClenaghan has taken another wicket. It is his third in the match. Faulkner walks back. James Faulkner c Patel b McClenaghan 7 (8b 1x4 0x6).
  • 18 overs: Finch is batting smartly. Not going for big shots. Just trying to hit in the gaps and relying on his running. 10 runs from Bumrah's over. He bowled a No Ball in the over that proved costly. Gujarat Lions 131/5 (13 runs required from 12 balls). Finch 57 (49b 6x4 1x6), Faulkner 7 (6b 1x4 0x6), Bumrah 3-0-18-2, McClenaghan 3-0-19-2.
  • 17 overs: It promised to be a good over with wicket on the first ball but a directionless ball and a superb placement by Finch turned it into a big over. 12 runs from McClenaghan's over. Gujarat Lions 121/5 (23 runs required from 18 balls). Finch 54 (47b 6x4 1x6), Faulkner 1 (1b 0x4 0x6), McClenaghan 3-0-19-2, Harbhajan Singh 2-0-20-0.

  • 14 overs: Another good over by Krunal Pandya. Just 3 runs. He is not letting the pressure on Gujarat Lions ease. Gujarat Lions 90/4 (54 runs required from 36 balls). Finch 36 (37b 5x4 0x6), Nath 4 (4b 0x4 0x6), K Pandya 4-0-20-1, Bumrah 2-0-8-2.
  • 13 overs: Good over for Mumbai Indians. Just 4 runs and Bravo's wicket. But Gujarat Lions must be feeling hard done by. Gujarat Lions 87/4 (57 runs required from 42 balls). Nath 3 (3b 0x4 0x6), Finch 34 (32b 5x4 0x6), Bumrah 2-0-8-2, K Pandya 3-0-17-1.

  • 11 overs: Hardik Pandya gave 6 runs. Good over. Had a good competition with Dinesh Karthik. They can't afford to give too many runs. Gujarat Lions 80/2 (64 runs required from 54 balls. Finch 33 (30b 5x4 0x6), Karthik 9 (10b 1x4 0x6), Pandya 2-0-16-0, Pandya 2-0-15-0.
  • 10 overs: 8 runs from the over without hitting a boundary. That's what Gujarat Lions need. Requirement is not big at the moment. Karthik and Finch worked Krunal Pandya around and ran well. Gujarat Lions 74/2 (70 runs required from 60 balls). Finch 33 (29b 5x4 0x6), Karthik 4 (5b 0x4 0x6), Pandya 2-0-15-0, McClenaghan 2-0-11-1.
  • 9 overs: It was a wonderful over by McClenaghan. Just 3 runs and Raina's wicket. Gujarat Lions 66/2 (78 runs required from 11 overs). Karthik 0 (2b 0x4 0x6), Finch 29 (26b 5x4 0x6), McClenaghan 2-0-11-1, Harbhajan Singh 1-0-10-0.
  • WICKET! It was not needed from Raina. Runs were coming easily and Gujarat Lions didn't need too many. Poor decision in the circumstances. McClenaghan gets a wicket. Suresh Raina c Patel b McClenaghan 27 (22b 3x4 1x6).
  • 8 overs: Harbhajan Singh into attack by he had no effect on Finch. 10 runs scored from the over. They are getting boundaries every over. Lions 63/1 (81 runs required from 12 overs). Raina 26 (20b 3x4 1x6), Finch 27 (24b 5x4 0x6), Harbhajan Singh 1-0-10-0, Pandya 1-0-10-0.
  • 7 overs: Somehow Raina finds a way to hit a boundary. The last ball of Hardik Pandya's over was not bad but he used straight bat to lift it over his head for SIX. 11 runs off the over. Gujarat Lions 53/1 (91 runs required from 13 overs). Raina 25 (19b 3x4 1x6), Finch 18 (19b 3x4 0x6), Pandya 1-0-10-0, Pandya 1-0-7-0.
  • 6 overs: It was a good over by Krunal Pandya, left-arm spinner, to end the powerplay. Just 7 runs off it. Not easy for a spinner to bowl in the powerplay. Gujarat Lions 42/1 (102 runs required from 14 overs). Finch 17 (17b 3x4 0x6), Raina 17 (15b 3x4 0x6), K Pandya 1-0-7-0, Southee 3-0-22-0.

  • 4 overs: Mumbai Indians shouldn't allow Raina or Finch to settle here. They need to take wickets if they want to win this match. 9 runs off Mitchell McClenaghan over. Gujarat Lions 29/1 (115 runs required from 16 overs). Raina 10 (10b 2x4 0x6), Finch 11 (10b 2x4 0x6), McClenaghan 1-0-8-0, Southee 2-0-16-0.
  • 3 overs: A better over by Southee this. Just 5 runs. Wickets put pressure on the batting side. Fall of McCullum in the previous over reflected in this over. Gujarat Lions 20/1 (124 runs required from 17 overs). Raina 2 (5b 0x4 0x6), Finch 11 (9b 2x4 0x6), Southee 2-0-16-0, Bumrah 1-0-4-1.
  • 2 overs: Bumrah bowls a great first over. Just 4 runs off it and a big wicket too. Gujarat Lions 15/1 (129 runs required from 18 overs). Raina 2 (3b 0x4 0x6), Finch 6 (5b 1x4 0x6), Bumrah 1-0-4-1, Southee 1-0-11-0.
  • WICKET! Oh that's a big wicket. Brendon McCullum is out. Jasprit Bumrah has provided the breakthrough. That's what they needed to have a chance in this match. An early wicket. Brendon McCullum c HH Pandya b Bumrah 6 (4b 0x4 1x6).
  • 1 over: Great start to the chase. 11 runs off Southee's over, including a SIX and a FOUR. Gujarat Lions 11/0 (133 runs required from 19 overs). McCullum 6 (3b 0x4 1x6), Finch 5 (3b 1x4 0x6), Southee 1-0-11-0.
  • The chase begins now. Brendon McCullum and Aaron Finch are ready to face Tim Southee.

Mumbai Indians Innings Great bowling by Gujarat Lions. They didn't allow any Mumbai batsman to settle. Thanks to some good over in the end, Mumbai Indians managed to put up a fighting total. Otherwise, it was a bad display of batting in front of their home fans.
  • 20 overs: Good over to end the innings for Mumbai Indians. 14 runs came off it. Mumbai Indians 143/8.
  • 19 overs: Biggest over of the innings. 17 runs off it. Southee hit big SIX on the first ball to start the over on a good note. Then there were several extras coupled with good running between the wicket. Mumbai needed this. And they need more. Mumbai Indians 129/7. Pandya 17 (9b 3x4 0x6), Southee 14 (7b 0x4 1x6), Faulkner 4-0-40-1, Bravo 3-0-25-1.
  • 18 overs: Much better over for Mumbai Indians. 13 runs off it. It's not easy to hit Bravo for so many runs when you have lost so many wickets. Mumbai Indians 112/7. Pandya 12 (6b 2x4 0x6), Southee 5 (3b 0x4 0x6), Bravo 3-0-25-1, Faulkner 3-0-23-1.

  • WICKET! Rayudu falls too in an attempt to improve the run scoring. Faulkner gets his wicket. Ambati Rayudu b Faulkner 20 (19b 0x4 1x6).
  • 16 overs: Just 6 runs from the over and wicket too. Bravo is rocking the Mumbai lower order with his mix of slow balls. Mumbai Indians 88/6. Krunal Pandya 0 (1b 0x4 0x6), Rayudu 15 (14b 0x4 1x6), Bravo 2-0-12-1, Faulkner 2-0-12-0.

  • 15 overs: Mumbai Indians don't seem to be getting a big score here. Just 4 runs from Faulkner's over. Mumbai Indians 82/5. Harbhajan Singh 2 (8b 0x4 0x6), Rayudu 15 (14b 0x4 1x6), Faulkner 2-0-12-0, Jakati 3-0-13-1.

  • WICKET! Parthiv Patel's resilient innings is over. Wanted to clear the mid-wicket boundary but fell just short. Tambe gets another wicket. Partiv Patel c Faulkner b Tambe 34 (29b 2x4 2x6).
  • 12 overs: Mumbai Indians should be worried now. There aren't many over left in their innings and the scoreboard is crawling. Someone should start hitting big shots. 6 runs from Bravo's first over. Mumbai Indians 68/4. Rayudu 3 (5b 0x4 0x6), Patel 34 (28b 2x4 2x6), Bravo 1-0-6-0, Tambe 1-0-3-1.
  • 11 overs: Tambe bowled a good over to start his spell. Just 3 runs and a big wicket. Mumbai Indians 62/4. Patel 30 (25b 2x4 2x6), Rayudu 1 (2b 0x4 0x6), Tambe 1-0-3-1, Kulkarni 4-1-19-2.

  • 10 overs: Parthiv Patel again hit a SIX in the over but couldn't make it a big over. Only 2 more runs were scored on other five balls. 8 runs from Kulkarni's over. Mumbai Indians 59/3.
  • 9 overs: Jakati was hit for a cracking SIX by Parthiv Patel on the first ball but he struck back to get Buttler on the last ball of the over. 10 runs spent and a wicket earned. Not a bad deal. Mumbai Indians 51/3. Pollard 0 (1b 0x4 0x6), Patel 21 (17b 2x4 1x6), Jakati 2-0-12-1, Faulkner 1-0-8-0.

  • 8 overs:  James Faulkner into attack. Jos Buttler collected on FOUR in the boundary to get 8 runs from the over. Buttler and Parthiv are trying to hard to bring their innings back on track. Mumbai Indians 41/2. Buttler 16 (21b 3x4 0x6), Patel 12 (12b 2x4 0x6), Faulkner 1-0-8-0, Jakati 1-0-2-0.

  • 6 overs: Gujarat Lions have bowled really well in the powerplay, especially Dhawal Kulkarni. Just 31 runs and 2 wickets in the powerplay is indeed a good effort. But Mumbai have long batting line. Gujarat will need to keep taking wickets. Just 5 runs from the over. Mumbai Indians 31/2. Patel 9 (8b 2x4 0x6), Buttler 10 (13b 2x4 0x6), Kulkarni 3-1-11-2, Praveen 3-0-18-0.
  • 5 overs: Praveen Kumar is showing how difficult it is bat when the ball is swinging. And he is swinging with great control. Unlucky that edge flew past slip for FOUR. 7 runs from the over. Mumbai Indians 26/2. Buttler 5 (8b 1x4 0x6), Patel 9 (7b 2x4 0x6), Kumar 3-0-18-0, Kulkarni 2-1-6-2.
  • 4 overs: Kulkarni bowled another successful over here. Just 4 runs from it and a wicket. Mumbai Indians 19/2. Buttler 0 (3b 0x4 0x6), Patel 9 (6b 2x4 0x6), Kulkarni 2-1-6-2, Praveen 2-0-12-0.
  • WICKET! Another wicket for Kulkarni. He snaps another Mumbaikar. Pandya is walking back. Hardik Pandya c Jakati b Kulkarni 2 (6b 0x4 0x6).
  • 3 overs: Better over for Mumbai Indians. 10 runs off it. Mumbai Indians 19/1. Pandya 2 (3b 0x4 0x6), Patel 9 (6b 2x4 0x6), Kumar 2-0-12-0, Kulkarni 1-0-6-1.
  • 2 overs: Successful over. Kulkarni came in this match because Jadeja is not available and he justified the faith in him. 6 runs and a wicket in the over. Mumbai Indians 9/1. Patel 1 (2b 0x4 0x6), Pandya 1 (1b 0x4 0x6), Kulkarni 1-0-6-1, Praveen 1-0-3-0.
  • WICKET! One Mumbaikar dismisses the other. Dhawal Kulkarni gets Rohit Sharma. Big wicket for Gujarat Lions. Rohit Sharma c Jakati b Kulkarni 7 (9b 1x4 0x6).
  • 1 over: Superb display of swing bowling. Praveen Kumar swung both ways and very effectively. Rohit was clearly in trouble. Mumbai Indians 3/0.
  • We are set to go. Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma and Parthiv Patel are marking their guards. Suresh Raina is busy spreading his field. Praveen Kumar to bowl the first over.
TEAMS Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma, Parthiv Patel, Hardik Pandya, Jos Buttler, Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu, Harbhajan Singh, Krunal Pandya, Tim Southee, Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah. Gujarat Lions: Aaron Finch, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo, Dinesh Karthik, James Faulkner, Akshdeep Nath, Praveen Kumar, Shadab Jakati, Dhawal Kulkarni, Pravin Tambe.
  • Toss time. Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina has won the toss and he has decided to bowl first against Mumbai Indians.
  • DID YOU KNOW? Harbhajan Singh needs just one wicket to surpass Piyush Chawla as the third highest wicket-taker in IPL history, behind Lasith Malinga and Amit Mishra.
  • PITCH: The Wankhede pitch in the IPL opener between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants was not a typical belter. The was seam movement early on and then it provided grip to the spinners before turning into a batting paradise. However, dew is like to a factor once again. So, both the teams would like to chase.
  • So, Ravindra Jadeja is not going to play in this match. He is getting married tomorrow. Must be very busy today. Big day.

PREVIEW Their bid for a third title back on track after a shock defeat in the opening game, defending champions Mumbai Indians would be keen to carry on the winning momentum when they face table-toppers Gujarat Lions, who have won both their matches so far, in an IPL game. Unlike the last two years, MI have made a quick turnaround following their humiliating nine-wicket loss against the new IPL team – Rising Pune Supergiants – in their campaign opener at the Wankhede Stadium here on April 9. They came back strongly to post a thumping six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders and that augurs well for their expected tough battle against yet another league debutants – Gujarat Lions. MI had suffered a string of four straight losses initially before overturning despair into delight by storming their way to the title last year. They had lost five straight matches in the beginning in 2014 edition also prior to entering the play-offs. Keen to avoid a similar run, MI have succeeded in breaking their losing streak early this season. It must be pleasing for the team that it came on the strength of captain Rohit Sharma, who led the way with an attacking, unbeaten 84 that flattened KKR. Equally pleasing for MI would be the form of new England recruit Jos Buttler. Another important cog in the title holders' wheel is New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell McClenaghan. MI, however, would be hoping that not only this trio but also the likes of Hardik Pandya also click against the new franchise led by Suresh Raina. Mumbai's top-order, even in the absence of their last season top-scorer Lendl Simmons, ruled out due to injury, wears a healthy look. But it would be hoping to play on a more batsman-friendly wicket than the seam-supported one that was laid for the tournament opener against Pune. After the sound thrashing at home by the Pune franchise in their first game, MI re-jigged their bowling combination a bit and it paid rich dividends against KKR. In the light of last year's success story with Harbhajan Singh forging an effective spin duet with left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchith, this duo is expected to be retained for a similar role in the middle overs against the Lions today. Sitting at the top of the table with successive wins over Kings XI Punjab (away by 5 wickets) and RPS (at home in Rajkot by 7 wickets), Gujarat Lions would fancy their chances. Ravindra Jadeja showed his effectiveness with his left-arm slow bowling, but the Lions would be mulling whether to keep the other left-arm spinner Shadab Jakati in the mix. The Lions also have some big muscle at the top of the batting order in the meaty blade of in-form Australian opener Aaron Finch, who has the ability to take the leather off the ball and uses his feet well against the spinners, and the ever-aggressive former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum. The duo is followed by skipper Suresh Raina and Dwayne Bravo, but beyond the top four, the batting appears a bit light with the inconsistent Dinesh Karthik and Jadeja. It would be interesting to see how the new team performs if it loses some early wickets. With the cagey Praveen Kumar, 40-plus Praveen Tambe and all-rounder Bravo, with his ability to take off the pace with his slower balls, beefed up by the lanky left-arm pace of James Faulkner, the Lions seem to have covered most bases in bowling. They might be tempted to bring in Umang Sharma to bowl off spin in place of Jakati for the game against MI. Teams Gujarat Lions: Aaron Finch, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina (Capt.), Dwayne Bravo, Dinesh Karthik, Ravindra Jadeja, Akshdeep Nath, James Faulkner, Praveen Kumar, Shadab Jakati, Praveen Tambe, Paras Dogra, Eklavya Dwivedi, Ishan Kishan, Shivli Kaushik, Dhawal Kulkarni, Sarabjit Ladda, Amit Mishra, Pradeep Sangwan, Jaydev Shah, Umang Sharma, Dwayne Smith, Dale Steyn, Andrew Tye. Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (Capt.), Parthiv Patel, Hardik Pandya, Jos Buttler, Mitchell McClenaghan, Ambati Rayudu, Kieron Pollard, Harbhajan Singh, Jagadeesha Suchith, Tim Southee, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Gopal, R Vinay Kumar, Corey Anderson, Unmukht Chand, Marchant de Lange, Siddhesh Lad, Kishore Kamath, Krunal Pandya, Kishore Kamath, Deepak Punia, Nitish Rana, Jitesh Sharma, Nathu Singh, Akshay Wakhare, Lendl Simmons, Lasith Malinga. Match starts at 8:00 PM.
