Chennai Test: India beat England by an innings and 75 runs, conquer series 4-0

LIVE SCORE | INDIA vs ENGLAND | 5th TEST | DAY 2

CHENNAI

FULL SCORECARD

Day 5, two sessions left and Ravindra Jadeja had other ideas. He literally wrecked havoc and outclassed his partner in crime, the local boy, Ashwin and went on to take scalp 10 wickets in the match and registering his best figures in Tests. The Indians have once again proved that it's not only difficult to beat them in their own den but it is next to impossible. Let's wait and see what the captains of both the teams have to say... It was Moeen Ali who scored 146 but it was outclassed by KL Rahul who missed out on a double ton but in the end the limelight was stolen by the young man, Karun Nair who went onto score a triple century and helped his side post a mammoth total on the board. With the track not having any demons in it, one would have thought this match could very well head towards a draw and with how Cook and Jennings saw off the session this morning, not many would have thought what was left in store. The English batsmen after putting up an impressive performance with the bat, succumbed to pressure and have themselves to blame to have not survived just two sessions. Cook will be really bewailed with this performance as he couldn't make the most of it after winning the all-important toss on day 1. The got runs on the board but as has been the case in the series so far, whatever England scored, India went past it every time they had a go with the willow. The Indian team has done it, they have bowled out the deep English batting line-up and mind you, they went wicketless in the morning session. Ravindra Jadeja, the tormentor-in-chief came out all guns blazing after lunch and spun the web viciously to bundle out the visitors and claim a 7-fer on what was a flat deck, oh boy, this is something spectacular. INDIA WIN by an innings and  75 runs to claim the series 4-0 #WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Jake Ball, OUT c Karun Nair b Ravindra Jadeja. England have been bowled out. #WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Stuart Broad, OUT c Cheteshwar Pujara b Ravindra Jadeja. England have lost their ninth wicket. 84 Overs: England 206/8. Stuart Broad 0 (5), Jos Buttler 6 (40) #WICKET Umesh Yadav to Adil Rashid, OUT! The new ball has worked wonders for Kohli and India! The crowd is just loving this. Yadav has immediately removed Rashid. He angles it in on middle, at 139 kph, Rashid looks to flick it towards the leg side but maybe he closes the face of the bat a tad early. Gets a leading edge towards covers where the man of the day, Jadeja takes an easy reverse cup catch there. India need 2 wickets to win now. #WICKET Amit Mishra to Liam Dawson, OUT b Amit Mishra. England have lost their seventh wicket. Liam Dawson comes in India's Ravindra Jadeja, right, and teammates celebrate the dismissal of England's Ben Stokes 2016. ENGLAND ARE LOSING THEIR WAY! A bit short and the ball seems to have stopped before reaching to stokes who is uncomfortable at the crease and the ball finds the leading edge going straight into the hands of Karun Nair. That's easy stuff for Nair. Jadeja gets his fifth and he is single-handedly turning the game around. Jos Buttler is the new man in. #WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Moeen Ali, OUT! In the air... and it's gone! Ravichandran Ashwin has taken a brilliant catch. Loopy ball outside off, Ali comes down the track to go over mid on but fails to get to the pitch of the ball. Gets it off the inner half of the bat and a bit too high towards mid on where Ashwin times his leap to perfection and grabs it beautifully. Kohli shows a thumbs up to Ash and Jadeja is all smiles. He now has a 4-fer, can he get a 5-wicket haul? Since then, Moeen Ali and Stokes have dealt with a few nervy moments but will be happy to have survived. The former has continued from where he left off in the first innings and would look to keep it going. So, India need 6 wickets to win and we have 31 overs remaining in the day. If the visitors continue in this way, this game can be over before the usual time. What do we have in store for the final session of the Test series? Join us back shortly to find out... What an eventful second session we have had here. 27 overs were bowled and 70 runs came with the loss of 4 wickets! After lunch, the Indians came out all guns blazing and it was Ravindra Jadeja who made an immediate impact, removing both the English openers. He then quickly got the big fish in the name of Joe Root and then was also involved in a spectacular catch of Bairstow. #TEA 64 overs: England 167/4. Moeen Ali 32 (69), Ben Stokes 13(32) 60 overs: England 143/4. Moeen Ali 17 (55), Ben Stokes 5(22) #WICKET Ishant Sharma to Jonny Bairstow, OUT! Full and outside leg, Bairstow plays it loose and gets a thick leading edge towards deep-wicket and Jadeja covers some distance running back towards the boundary for a beautiful catch. Jadeja made it look very easy but it was a fantastic catch. Everyone in the field lauds that effort and the Indians are excited as Bairstow walks back to the pavilion. The Englishmen seem to be in a bit of trouble now. 52 overs: England 129/3. Moeen ALi 12 (31), Jonny Bairstow 1(4) #WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Joe Root OUT lbw b Ravindra Jadeja. England have lost their third wicket. 46 overs: England 115/2. Joe Root 3(12), Moeen ALi 3 (9) England's Keaton Jennings, left, leaves the ground after being dismissed by India's Ravindra Jadeja, fourth right, during their fifth day of the fifth cricket test match in Chennai. (AP PHOTO) #WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Alastair Cook, OUT! Jadeja strikes and for the umpteenth number of times he removes Cook! A bunny in every sense you can say. But credit to KL Rahul for taking a superb catch as well. This was down the leg side, at 94 kph, Cook could have left it alone but instead feels for it. He flicks and it goes towards the Indian opener at leg gully who takes a sharp catch instinctively. He is up and running and Jadeja has his arms aloft. Captain Cook walks back missing out on a fifty by a mere one run. First success today for the home side, can they build the pressure now? Ravindra Jadeja to Alastair Cook Welcome back for the second session. Can England continue the good work? Or will Ashwin and co. come out all guns blazing? Remains to be seen. COOK and JENNINGS are out to bat again. India will begin with RAVINDRA JADEJA! Here we go... DAY 5 SESSION 2 India will have to come back in a short while and try to get some quick wickets so that they can put the visitors on back foot. Currently a draw seems imminent if not we will need to get a dramatic lapse from the Englishmen to get a result against them. It will be exciting to see how the second session paves out. Join us in a while for the post-lunch session at 1210 IST. #LUNCH 35 overs: England 91/0. Alastair Cook 46(112), Keaton Jennings 29 overs: England 65/0. Alastair Cook 35(97), Keaton Jennings 33(83) 15 overs: England 29/0. Alastair Cook 31(51), Keaton Jennings 16(39) 10 overs: England 21/0. Alastair Cook 9(34), Keaton Jennings 12(26) Just before entering the field, the Indian players are posing for the photographs. The players are out in the middle for the final day's play. The overnight batsmen COOK and JENNINGS will start the proceedings with the bat. On the other hand, the visitors will have to bat out really well to see out the day as it's a mission of 90 overs for both the teams. England who batted for 157 overs in the first innings will hope to dish out a similar performance again as the pitch has not changed a lot. It will be an exciting day's play for sure as India will try to finish off the series with a 4-0 whitewash. Join us in a while as live action is underway. Hello and a warm welcome on Day 5 of the final Test between India and England. India hold the upper hand in the match as there are only two results possible for them - a win or a draw. The hosts will try to rattle out the openers as soon as possible to impose some real pressure on the English middle order. DAY 5 SESSION 1 The wiped out the deficit and then took the lead to 282, which should tell you the story of the Indian innings all be itself. The home side declared very late in the day, but they would consider it being worthy. England was asked to come out and deal with just 5 overs and the only smiling point for them in the hard toiling day will be, they have managed to see it off. A fabulous day of Test cricket comes to an end! It has been India's day by miles. And the highlight package of the day goes without saying - Karun Nair and his triple hundred. He becomes only the third player overall and the first Indian to covert his maiden ton into a triple. Every Indian batsmen came in and got the purchase from the pitch. It was once again proved that this Indian team can bat and bat deep. Ashwin, Jadeja played the supporting role and not only helped Nair achieve the feat but also helped their side post a gigantic total on the board. That's stumps on Day 4. England 12/0. Alastair Cook 3 (15), Keaton Jennings 8 (9) England 2nd innings India declare their innings at 759/7, lead England by 282 runs Karun Nair gets to 300, becomes first Indian and third in world to convert his maiden hundred into a triple century. #WICKET: Liam Dawson to Ravicndra Jadeja, OUT! Tries to clear the field but ends up giving a catch to long on. India lose their seventh wicket. Jadeja reaches his fifty and does his customary sword celebration. India register their highest ever Test score. India 742/6, previous best was 726/9d aganst Sri Lanka in 2009 186 overs: India 717/6. Karun Nair 276(360),  Ravindra Jadeja 37(44) Adil Rashid to Karun Nair, There it is! He is going strong and hard with every ball! The Chepauk crowd is up again, the Indian dressing room is doing the same. Not a big celebration from the young man, just another raise of a bat and sinks in the moment. Very full around middle. Nair comes forward and nurldes it towards square leg for one. 177 overs: India 658/6. Karun Nair 237(335),  Ravindra Jadeja 20(21) 173 overs: India 630/6. Karun Nair 226(324),  Ravindra Jadeja 3(8) #WICKET Stuart Broad to Ravichandran Ashwin, OUT! THAT WAS BRILLIANT BY BUTTLER! Ashwin has to depart after a really well played knock of 67 runs. Broad bowls a back of a length delivery outside off, Ashwin tries to run it down towards third man but Buttler who was standing at gully dives low to his left to hold on to a stunner. That was a sensational catch as it was coming in quick and his reflexes was too fast there. There was a moment of silence there and the home ground lad is walking back. #DOUBLE HUNDRED Keaton Jennings to Karun Nair, FOUR! Nair has been sublime all throughout the day and has just showed his class as he reaches to his first double century. His ability to play these long innings is very well known in the domestic level but to convert that in the international circuit shows some caliber. That ball was pitched up outside off, Karun was quick to pounce into it and to drive it through covers for a boundary. So it's time for the final session of the day. The players are walking out in the middle. KARUN NAIR and ASHWIN will continue to impose with the bat. MOEEN ALI will start off with the ball for the visitors. DAY 4 SESSION 3 England will be surely feeling the heat now. They have even asked Jennings to bowl but even that didn't work. On such kind of track, you expect the bowling team to get toiled. The lead is swelling and so is this current partnership. How much more will India bat? Sunil Gavaskar in his pitch report mentioned that the ball will grip after the afternoon session, so let's wait and see if it really does. Will we see a declaration from the Indians? Join us back at 1430 IST for the final session. Session highlights - 30 overs, 119 runs, 0 wicket! Another session bagged by the Indians as they have not only seen the session unscathed but have wiped out the deficit and also have gained a 105-run lead. Karun Nair has absolutely made his mind that he wants to score a big one and has applied himself with sheer grit and authority in the middle. The local boy, Ravichandran Ashwin has once again proved, if he has an off day with the cherry, his willow will do the talking. He registered another Test fifty and survived a scare just at the stroke of Tea by making an excellent use of the review. #TEA  160 overs: India 569/5. Karun Nair 185(285),  R Ashwin 51(118) #FIFTY Keaton Jennings to Ravichandran Ashwin, FOUR! There it is! Ashwin gets to his fifty! He had a tough time with the ball but covers it up with the bat and gives his home crowd something to cheer for. They are up to laud his effort. Jennings strays it on the pads, Ashwin couldn't have asked for anything better. He just clips it through backward square leg and the raise of the bat follows next. 100-run stand between Ashwin and Karun! 150 overs: India 525/5. Karun Nair 154(246),  R Ashwin 38(97) #150 Adil Rashid to Karun Nair, Nair has reached to his maiden 150+ score in Tests with this superb drive. Tossed up outside off, Nair reaches out to it to drive it through the cover region for a single. 144 overs: India 507/5. Karun Nair 149(239), R Ashwin 25 (68) We are back for the second session of the fourth day. The players are back in the middle. Nair and Ashwin have come out to bat. MOEEN ALI will start with the ball. DAY 4 SESSION 2 Dawson and Broad bowled well but cramping the Indians for runs did not help them land a wicket. Stokes was the pick of the bowler's but was unlucky not to find a single wicket. Seems like the hosts are well set to post a huge total out here and impose a big enough lead so that they don't have to bat again. Next session will be important to see if the game moves into someone's favour. Join us back in a while for the second session of the last Test. A good session for the Indians as they have batted out really well losing just one wicket in the process. Vijay and Karun went about their business at a good pace till Dawson got the better of Vijay. Nair has elegantly marched through to his maiden Test hundred and looks hungry for more. They just trail by 14 runs and have still have 5 wickets left. #LUNCH  One local boy departs, other walks in. RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN is the new man in! #WICKET Liam Dawson to Murali Vijay, OUT! Liam Dawson gets his first Test wicket! And India waste a review here. Liam bowls a flatter delivery on middle, skids in after pitching. Vijay gets back to work it on the leg side but is cramped for room and as a result gets rapped on the pads right in front of the stumps. A loud appeal follows and thew umpire raises his finger. Vijay walks to his partner and then takes the review. Replays show it was in line and would have gone on to hit the stumps. Vijay continues to walk back. #HUNDRED Karun Nair gets his maiden Test hundred. 118 overs: India 417/4. Karun Nair 92(168), Murali Vijay 22(59) England's Liam Dawson, left, and Stuart Broad, right, react after India's Karun Nair, center, hit a boundary during their fourth day of the fifth cricket test match in Chennai (AP PHOTO) England's Liam Dawson, left, and Stuart Broad, right, react after India's Karun Nair, center, hit a boundary during their fourth day of the fifth cricket test match in Chennai (AP PHOTO) 111 overs: India 399/4. Karun Nair 79(150), Murali Vijay 17(35) The players are walking out in the middle. Vijay and Nair will start of from where they left last night. Good morning and a warm welcome on Day 4 of the final Test between India and England. The Indians are in a good position with the bat and they would love to impose themselves on the visitors. They would be wanting to bat out as long as possible and put a huge total on the board so that they don't need to bat again. The visitors on the other hand will try to get some quick wickets in the first hour of play and try to get a look at India's tail. It will be a really exciting day's play as both the teams will try to put up a better show. Join us in a while as live action isn't far away. DAY 4 SESSION 1 England tried to impose the pressure as they got Pujara and Kohli, the two mainstays of Indian cricket out in real quick succession. They tried hard but they were totally undone by Rahul and Karun. The former kept on playing till nearly the end of the day as he got off just one short of his first double hundred. He would be really disappointed because of that but his fellow Karnataka player kept playing with the home town hero Vijay till stumps. It's been a really amazing day for the Indians as they have batted really well throughout. Parthiv and Rahul started the day in a really good fashion as they got on top of every lose delivery. They were batting well till the former got off to a loose shot against Moeen Ali. Pujara came in and kept chipping for some time but he departed soon after the break. The breaks have haunted him quite some times in the series. That's stumps on Day 3. India 391/4. Karun Nair 71 (136), Murali Vijay 17 (31) India's Lokesh Rahul, gestures as he leaves ground after being dismissed by England's Adil Rashid during their third day of the fifth cricket test match in Chennai (AP PHOTO) India's Lokesh Rahul, gestures as he leaves ground after being dismissed by England's Adil Rashid during their third day of the fifth cricket test match in Chennai (AP PHOTO) #WICKET Adil Rashid to Lokesh Rahul, OUT! Would you believe it? KL Rahul misses out on a double ton by a mere 1 run. He is down on the ground in disbelief. Heartbreak for KL Rahul, gets out for 199. India lose their 4th wicket That's fifty for Karun Nair, maiden half-century for the Karnataka lad 90 overs: India 319/3. Lokesh Rahul 169(273), Karun Nair 46(92) KL Rahul brings up his 150. what an innings! 82 overs: India 286/3 Lokesh Rahul 149(250), Karun Nair 33(72) 77 overs: India 268/3 Lokesh Rahul 143(240), Karun Nair 21(52) Welcome back for the final session. England need to seize the initiative in this passage of play if he have to sneak ahead in the match. DAY 3 SESSION 3 Nothing much in the surface although the occasional ball has gripped. Stokes and Broad were really good in their spells as they managed to keep a lid on the scoring rate. The spinners have been too inconsistent to create any impact. The game is in the balance at the moment. The final session could be pivotal to see which way the result is heading. Join us in a while for the post-tea phase of play. An even session of Test match cricket. England would be pleased at having dislodged two massive wickets of Pujara and Kohli. Both batsmen fell to loose shots although England deserved credit for strangling the runs. Rahul got his 4th Test ton in the session and is still there, looking hungry for more. He has the young Karun for company and the pair has built a decent partnership to ensure that the honors were shared in the session. #TEA 65 overs: India 207/3 Lokesh Rahul 113(203), Karun Nair 6(17) #WICKET Stuart Broad to Virat Kohli, OUT! MASSIVE WICKET! There's a stunned silence around the stadium. Around the wicket, it was a full ball angled across the batsman, Kohli couldn't keep the drive down and found Jennings at short extra to precision. Huge wicket for England and they will now have their tails up. The in-form Indian skipper has to depart. This is a really good phase for the tourists. Drying the runs up and also getting a couple of wickets. INDIA TRAIL BY 266. 59 overs: India 207/2 Lokesh Rahul 104(190), Virat Kohli 14(23) #HUNDRED Ben Stokes to Lokesh Rahul, Run-machine as Ashwin calls him gets to his first hundred of this series. Rahul flicks it towards square leg for a single and a bad throw at the non-striker's end results in an over throw where they run a couple. So that's 3 more runs on the board and Rahul reaches to his century. He is played a brilliant knock here and is going on really strong. Seems like a big one is coming. Virat Kohli is the next man in. #WICKET Ben Stokes to Cheteshwar Pujara, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Back of a length delivery outside off and the ball moved a bit away after pitching which got the better of Pujara who edged it straight to the slip fielder. The players are back in the middle. RAHUL AND PUJARA will continue the proceedings with the bat. DAY 3 SESSION A dominating session for the Indians where they have looked really solid with the bat and have never looked vulnerable. Rahul and Patel were both fluent as they battled out the English bowlers. Both reached to their respective half centuries and were going really well till Patel fell prey to a slower delivery from Moeen Ali. Pujara came in and has looked solid too with Rahul sailing through from the other side. England bowlers will have to come really strong with the ball in order to cause some damage to the Indians or the Indians will easily bat it out. Join us in a while for the second session of the last Test. #LUNCH  48 overs: India 173/1 Lokesh Rahul 89(157), Cheteshwar Pujara 11(19) 42 overs: India 152/1  Lokesh Rahul 79(139), Cheteshwar Pujara 0(1) #WICKET Moeen Ali to Parthiv Patel, OUT! PARTHIV HAS TO DEPART! An off spinning delivery outside off which turned a bit to undo Parthiv. Parthiv tries to heave it over mid-wicket but the ball flies of the the leading edge in the air for a simple catch for Jos Buttler who is standing at covers. An impressive knock comes to an end. 35 overs: India 124/0. Lokesh Rahul 71(122), Parthiv Patel 51(88) India's Parthiv Patel raises his bat after scoring half century against England during their third day of the fifth cricket test match in Chennai (AP Photo) India's Parthiv Patel raises his bat after scoring half century against England during their third day of the fifth cricket test match in Chennai (AP Photo) #Fifty PARTHIV PATEL gets his 6th fifty in Tests. Rahul reaches to his 2nd fifty in Test cricket. 23 overs: India 72/0. Lokesh Rahul 37(79), Parthiv Patel 33(59) #SIX Liam Dawson to Lokesh Rahul, SIX! UP AND OVER! Tossed up outside off, Rahul dances down the track and hits it straight over the bowlers head for a biggie. That was brilliant timing from Rahul there. The players are out in the middle. KL RAHUL and PARTHIV PATEL will continue from where they left of last night. LIAM DAWSON will start off with the ball for England. Hello and welcome to our coverage of the third day's play. The Chepauk surface has been very docile over the first two days and it has meant that patient batsmen can make it big. England's big score is a testimony of that and India will want to reply in the same fashion. The start is good for the hosts but there's still a long way to go. England will hope that scoreboard pressure helps them a bit but they'll have to bowl well too. The action isn't far away. DAY 3 SESSION 1 Dawson kept on going till the end as he remained not out on one end and kept losing partners on his debut Test. Indians came out to bat with a fixed plan in their mind of not loosing a single wicket in the brief time they had out in the field. Rahul and Parthiv successfully batted through. It will be an interesting day tomorrow as it could turn into England's favour if they could rattle out the Indians real quick and on the other hand India will look to bat as long as possible to stay in the contest. Join us tomorrow again at 0930 IST for the third day of the Final Test. An eventful day of Test cricket where a total of 6 English wickets fell and they have mounted a big total of 477 runs in the first innings. India started the day really well with ball as they got the best of Moeen Ali, Stokes and Buttler really quick. Dawson and Rashid stuck it out in the middle with a huge partnership of 108 runs where both the batsmen got to their respective fifties. Umesh Yadav came in steaming after the Lunch break to get Rashid out. That's stumps on Day 3! India 60/0. Lokesh Rahul 30(68), Parthiv Patel 29(52) 15 overs: India 45/0. Lokesh Rahul 26(50), Parthiv Patel 17(40) 6 overs: India 16/0. Lokesh Rahul 7(17), Parthiv Patel 5(19) INDIA first innings Big surprise! Parthiv Patel walks out to open the batting with KL Rahul. Murali Vijay walked off the field with a shoulder a injury earlier in the day. England have finally been bowled out. A fab batting effort from the visitors after opting to bat. Ali's gritty century led the charge yesterday with good support from Root. India did fight back today as England slipped from 288/4 to 321/7 in the morning session a stubborn lower resistance from Dawson and Rashid ensured that the tourists got past the 475-run mark. England all out for 477 #WICKET Amit Mishra to Jake Ball, Bowled! Mishra at last gets his first wicket  #WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Stuart Broad, RUN OUT! Mix up and gone! Welcome back for the final session. The players are walking back in the middle. Dawson and Broad will continue from where they left. JADEJA will start with the proceedings for India. DAY 2 SESSION 3 It was more toil for India's bowlers on a pitch that was getting drastically slower. Even the turn for the spinners was really slow, thereby allowing the batsmen to adjust with ease. England want to push further and get past the 500-run mark which will give them more scope to inflict scoreboard pressure. Join us in a while for the second session. Good session for England as they managed to wrest back the initiative. Rashid and debutant Dawson stretched their partnership to 108 to frustrate the hosts big time. Both batsmen stroked fifties before the latter departed to a loose shot. Dawson is still there and has an adventurous Broad for company as the score has crossed the 450-run mark. #TEA 149 overs: England 448/8. Liam Dawson 51 (125) Stuart Broad 17(14) #WICKET Umesh Yadav to Adil Rashid, OUT! FINALLY SOMETHING HAPPENS! Pitched outside off, Rashid tries to drive it but he manages to edge it straight into the hands of Parthiv Patel who collects it comfortably. Rashid has to take the long walk back after a really good inning. 139 overs: England 404/7. Liam Dawson 44 (107) Adil Rashid 41(127) 125 overs: England 361/7. Liam Dawson 30(73) Adil Rashid 13(77) 121 overs: England 319/7. Liam Dawson 29(64) Adil Rashid 10 (62) Welcome back for the second session. How many more can England add to their tally? Let's find out as the players and umpires take the field. Anything under 400 will be a huge injustice to the platform they got yesterday. DAY 2 SESSION 2 Barring Mishra who continued to struggle with his radar, India's bowlers did a good job. Ashwin and Jadeja were probing with their lines and lengths while Ishant and Umesh managed to hurry the batsmen. India will want to wrap up the final three wickets as quickly as possible. England on the other hand, will want the tail to dig in and at least get them past the psychological 400-run mark. Join us in a short while for the second session. 29 overs, 68 runs, 3 wickets - India have fought back well to win this morning session. The hosts started with great discipline and were rewarded instantly. Stokes fell in the first over of the day while Buttler too didn't last long. The short ball ploy once again got rid of Ali to end the southpaw's marathon knock. Debutant Dawson and Rashid have frustrated the hosts with a 31-run unbroken stand but it's fair to say that the advantage England had yesterday has been negated. #LUNCH  115 overs: England 319/7. Liam Dawson 20(46) Adil Rashid 7 (44) Adil Rashid is the new man in. #WICKET Umesh Yadav to Moeen Ali, OUT! THAT'S A TRAP! Dug in short again, Moeen tries to pull it but is unable to get the elevation there and the ball falls straight into the hands of Jadeja. Jadeja who was standing at mid-wicket goes a bit towards his left to gather an easy catch. ALI has to depart after a good knock of 146 runs. No certified batsmen left. 103 overs: England 319/6. Moeen Ali 144(258) Liam Dawson 4(22) 99 overs: England 312/6. Moeen Ali 140(247) Liam Dawson 1(9)

#WICKET Ishant Sharma to Jos Buttler, OUT! PLUMB! A really good incoming delivery which was pitched up, Buttler tries to shuffle across and flick it through the on side but he is unable to make contact. A Loud appeal from the players and the umpire after thinking a bit raises his finger. Ishant gets rewarded for his impeccable line and England have again lost their batsmen in quick succession.
93 overs: England 233/5. Moeen Ali 124(229) Jos Buttler 2(8) JOS BUTTLER comes into bat. #WICKET Ravichandran Ashwin to Ben Stokes, OUT! ANOTHER BUNNY SPOTTED! Tossed up really well outside off, Stokes comes in line of the ball to defend it but the ball goes straight to the keeper after getting a faint edge on its way. Ashwin gets a wicket in the first over of the day. Mooen Ali batted really superbly as he got to his hundred and kept on going till the end of the day. Bairstow was unlucky to get out a run before his half century. Ishant bowled really well and he was the pick of the Indian bowlers. The spin trio could not cause much damage yesterday but they will love to do the talking with the ball today. Can England impose a big total on the board or will they stutter like they have always done in this series so far? Join us in a while as the action isn't far away. Welcome one and all to the second day of the final Test match between India and England. The visitors had an exciting day with the bat yesterday despite losing their openers cheaply early on. Root and Moeen batted really well in the initial phase where they were seen struggling for 21-2 in the first hour of the play. DAY 2 SESSION 1
Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers with a 3-fer on a track that slowed down as the day progressed. There was spin but there was time for the batsmen to adjust due to the slowness of the surface. It didn't deter the left-arm spinner as he bowled with great control, outbowling his spin partners. England will want to keep consolidating and aim for a total of at least 400 from here. India will hope to make early inroads tomorrow. Join us at 0930 IST for the second day's play. Till then, it's goodbye from us. Cheers!
A good day for England and they need this after the battering at Mumbai. The visitors won another good toss and ensured that their batsmen made it count. Ali's gritty century was the highlight of the day while Root too played a fluent knock although he was unlucky to miss the three-figure mark. The duo's efforts along with a neat little knock from Bairstow allowed England to go to stumps on a happy note despite the wicketkeeper batsman falling late in the day. That's stumps on Day 1 England 284/4. Moeen Ali 120(222), Ben Stokes 5 (29) Amit Mishra to Moeen Ali, There it is, a ton for Moeen Ali! This has been a top knock from him. Struggled early on and was even dropped on 0 but he has made the Indians pay for the same. Around off, Ali pushes it towards the off side for calls for the single. Jadeja strikes and Bairstow misses out on a half century. Jadeja bowls a loopy delivery around off, Bairstow comes forward to drive it on the up. Doesn't bothers to keep it down and ends up spooning a dolly to KL Rahul at short extra cover. That was a tame dismissal and Jonny is absolutely livid with himself. He bangs his bat on the ground and doesn't want to leave the crease but will have to. 73 overs: England 233/3. Moeen Ali 83(175) Jonny Bairstow 41(64) 67 overs: England 208/3. Moeen Ali 71(159) Jonny Bairstow 28(44) Welcome back for the final session. Which side will take the day's honors? We shall find out in the coming couple of hours. The players and umpires are out there in the middle. UMESH YADAV to begin proceedings after tea. Day 1 Session 3 Good session for England. Root and Ali batted with great intent after lunch and seized the initiative by scoring freely. The former looked set for a century but was dismissed in slightly debatable circumstances. He got out on the 80s for the umpteenth time in Tests. Ali has looked quite solid after a struggle in the morning session and has the in-form Bairstow for company. IN_ #TEA 60 overs: England 182/2. Moeen Ali 63(141) Jonny Bairstow 10(20) #WICKET Ravindra Jadeja to Joe Root, OUT! GOT HIM! What a review from India! Massive wicket this is. 54 overs: England 165/2. Joe Root 46(89) Moeen Ali 22(66) Welcome back for the second session. England in rebuilding phase and will want to keep consolidating. India would want to make further inroads. Joe Root is on strike. RAVINDRA JADEJA to bowl the first over after lunch. Day 1 Session 2 India's bowlers were very disciplined, giving very little away. They stuck to the basics and created pressure on the England batsmen. The surface has started to turn already and this certainly isn't good omen for the visitors. They will need to put a decent first innings total to compete in this game. Partnerships are key for England and they will hope the current one continues longer. India know that wickets can come in clumps on this pitch. Join us in a while for the next session. An even session for both sides although India would marginally be the happier side at the break after losing the toss. England started disastrously after opting to bat as both openers departed cheaply. Jennings was beautifully set up by Ishant while Jadeja once again derailed Cook. Since then, Root and Ali have hung on with the former looking fairly fluent. Both batsmen had some luck as Root edged one when second slip was wider while Ali was dropped on 0. #LUNCH 27 overs: England 64/2. Joe Root 41(70) Moeen Ali 6(37) 20 overs: England 40/2. Joe Root 23(43) Moeen Ali 5(22) 15 overs: England 27/2. Joe Root 13(27) Moeen Ali 2(8) #DROPPED Ravindra Jadeja to Moeen Ali, DROPPED! Pitched between middle and off, Moeen tries to go over the top but is unable to get the elevation. It's KL Rahul who is standing at mid-wicket who gets his fingers to it. A better tim9ing would have made it easier for Rahul. They run a couple in process.
