Earlier in the innings, England rode high on the back of the brilliant 179-run partnership between Root and Ali. Both of them went on to score well deserved centuries. There was another crucial partnership between Stokes and Bairstow too as the duo added 99 runs. The Indian bowlers tried hard but weren't effective enough. Shami and Yadav were good in patches but could have been more disciplined. Ashwin, the trump card was a let down this time as he was carved away for runs. Jadeja was most successful as he took 3 wickets. An uphill task lies ahead for India now. They're facing a big first innings total at home which is a rare thing for them nowadays. Brilliant batting effort by England as have put up a huge score on the board to put India on the back foot. In this session, their approach was a bit restrained and they applied themselves well. Jadeja came back after lunch and picked up two quick wickets creating an opportunity for them to bowl the visitors out but Stokes and Ansari stitched together a handy partnership. Ben Stokes was the one who stood tall and he smashed an entertaining century. He led a charmed life but was equally unfortunate to get out just at the stroke of lunch.
159.3 overs: Amit Mishra to Zafar Ansari, OUT! LBW! Decision stays as it is! On middle and leg, Ansari tries to sweep but misses and gets hit on the pads, right in front of the stumps. Big appeal for a leg before and the umpire raises his finger. Ansari takes a review straightaway. Replays show there is no inside edge and it's pitching in line and would have hit the stumps as well. Stokes is still lucky to be out there as he was dropped twice by Saha. The no. 1 Test side has been bogged down and that has reflected on the field today. They have already posted a huge score on the board and a curvy road lies ahead of the home side. England would look to dominate and put more pressure on India.

Fuller length ball outside off, hint of away movement, Bairstow goes after it but gets a faint edge to the keeper behind. Saha makes no mistake and Shami picks up his second wicket. The crowd is suddenly cheering out loudly. The dangerous 99-run stand is broken.

Lifts his arms skywards and the dressing room appreciates his fine effort. It has been a superb innings and he would look to carry on.
