Afghan Wicketkeeper-Batter Set To Return For KKR After Break From IPL 2024

IPL 2024: KKR's wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz is set to rejoin the team after he had to leave abruptly due to his mother's illness on May 1.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wicketkeeper-batter from Afghanistan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, took to his social media handle of X (formerly Twitter) to inform his fans that he's on a brief hiatus from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2024 to attend to his mother, who's unwell, and that he will rejoin the KKR ‘family’ very soon. The 22-year-old left the IPL on May 1 to be with his mother, who was facing health issues.

On May 7 (Tuesday), in a post on X, Rahmanullah Gurbaz expressed that he's taking a brief hiatus from the IPL to attend to his mother's illness. He expressed gratitude for the supportive messages and prayers, mentioning that his mother's condition is improving, and he'll be rejoining the KKR team soon.

“After a short break from IPL due to my mother’s illness, i will join my kkr family very soon, thanks for all the messages and prayers, alhumdulillah she is feeling better now thanks,” reads Gurbaz’s Tweet on X.

KKR On Top Of IPL 2024 Points Table

Coming to KKR, the two-time champions are leading the IPL 2024 points table comfortably with eight wins and just three losses from their 11 matches, positioning themselves strongly for the playoffs. In their recent match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), they displayed dominance at the Ekana International Stadium. Sunil Narine's impressive 81 off 39 balls, along with a solid opening stand of 61 runs with Phil Salt, propelled KKR to a formidable total of 235-6 in 20 overs.

Their bowlers were equally lethal, with Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana taking three wickets each, while Andre Russell claimed two. Mitchell Starc and Narine contributed with one wicket each, securing a convincing 98-run victory for KKR.

Phil Salt and Sunil Narine have been giving KKR exceptional starts with the bat at the top of the order and their bowling department has also looked in good rhythm in recent matches, which makes KKR the team to beat in this season of the IPL.
