Mumbai Indians IPL 2024 Auction Preview: Remaining Slots, Purse Availability, Potential Targets

With a current squad of 17 players (including 4 overseas), Mumbai Indians have the capacity to secure a maximum of eight players at the auction, with four of them potentially being overseas players.

As everyone prepares for the Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction 2024, an event where 333 players, including 214 Indian prospects, vie for esteemed spots in the league. Set to unfold on Tuesday, December 19, at Dubai's Coca-Cola Arena, IPL 2024 Auction commences at 1 pm IST. With a cap of 77 slots available, including 30 designated for overseas players, the auction anticipates an exhilarating and highly awaited bidding frenzy.

Mumbai Indians have been the most active team in the lead-up to the IPL 2024 auction, making headlines by reacquiring Hardik Pandya and ending Rohit Sharma's ten-year captaincy. In paving the way for Pandya's return, they released Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore, despite the Australian all-rounder's successful debut season with the franchise, bought for a whopping Rs. 17.5 crore.

Amidst these dramatic trade moves, including signing West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd from Lucknow Super Giants, the five-time champions still have considerable business to attend to. Under Pandya's leadership, they aim to reclaim their winning form after three seasons without a trophy or a final appearance.

For the IPL 2024 auction, Mumbai Indians possess a total budget of Rs. 17.75 crore. With a current squad of 17 players (including 4 overseas), they have the capacity to secure a maximum of eight players at the auction, with four of them potentially being overseas players.

While their batting lineup, including Indian talents and Tim David, appears strong, the bowling unit lacks depth, especially in the spin department. With only veteran Piyush Chawla as an experienced spinner, strengthening this area seems crucial for the franchise.

Furthermore, the pace department requires significant improvement following two lackluster seasons. Notably, the releases of Jofra Archer, Chris Jordan, Riley Meredith, and Jhye Richardson highlight the need for a revamp in this department.
