LSG vs DC: All Eyes On David Warner As Australian Returns To Delhi Capitals After 9 Years

The 35-year-old made a comeback to the Delhi franchise after nine years. Warner started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils as it was then called.

New Delhi: He is the fifth-highest run getter in the IPL with 5,286 runs that is laced with 49 half centuries and four tons. In IPL history, only Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli have more centuries than him. Barring 2021, he has amassed excess of 500 runs in each of the editions since 2014. He is the only player to win three Orange Caps -- 2015, 2017 and 2019 -- in the history of IPL.

Having piled up so many records, one may wonder why did SRH drop David Warner from its playing XI in 2021 and release him?

The southpaw's abysmal display in the previous season first saw him being stripped of the captaincy and later he had to sit in the dugout as he wasn't picked for Sunrisers' XI. The southpaw, who had a stupendous six seasons before 2021, scored a paltry 195 in his eight appearances in the Orange outfit last season.

The 35-year-old made a comeback to the Delhi franchise after nine years. Warner started his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils as it was then called. Warner played his first match for the Capitals after going through a three-day mandatory quarantine following a successful run with the bat against Pakistan.

Capitals are playing against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 15th match of the Indian Premier League. Both the teams have lost one match each. LSG lost their opening match in this edition against Gujarat Titans (GT) while Delhi Capitals too lost to Gujarat Titans in their recent showdown.

David Warner and South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje made it to the playing XI on Thursday.

Warner started his journey with the Delhi franchise in 2009 and after 13 years, he will be coming back with loads of experience and plenty of runs under his belt. He took the Sunrisers Hyderabad to victory in the 2016 edition of IPL. The Aussie southpaw is known to be a destructive opener but what needs to seen is if he will make a mark for the Delhi franchise or continue to struggle like the last season.
