IPL 2025: Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal Star As RCB Beat PBKS By 7 Wickets In Mullanpur

RCB secured their fifth victory of the IPL 2025 season by defeating Punjab Kings by seven wickets.

Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 7 wickets in the 37th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on April 20 (Sunday). While Virat Kohli remained on the crease till the end and guided RCB over the line scoring 73* runs off 54 balls, Padikkal scored a crucial 35-ball 61 runs innings.

This came as RCB's fifth victory in the ongoing IPL season and it propelled the Rajat Patidar-led team to the third spot in the IPL 2025 points table. While PBKS, on the other hand, slipped to the fourth spot.

Chasing a target of 158, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal stitched together a solid 103-run stand that laid the foundation for RCB’s convincing win with seven balls to spare.

Earlier, spinners Krunal Pandya (2/25) and Suyash Sharma (2/26) shared four wickets, as RCB kept Punjab Kings under pressure by striking at regular intervals. For the hosts, opener Prabhsimran Singh was the top scorer with a quickfire 33 off 17 balls after being asked to bat first.

Virat Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning 73-run knock. Here’s what he said during the post-match presentation.

“Very important game for us. 2 points can make a massive different in terms of qualification. We have played amazing cricket away from home. The mindset has to get 2 points. I wanted to accelerate more. I thought Dev made a difference today, this award should go to him. I try to stay there, holding one end and later accelerate. There always a temptation to keep going in the same way. Last game was a shortened game, so we had to go hard. We had to analyse the pitch in Rajasthan. One partnership is good enough in T20 cricket during run chase. I can accelerate, but I want to understand the strengths of other players. Holding one end at the moment, that's working for us. Very good option for us, we got a good team. These guys were composed. Guys like David, Jitesh, Patidar, it's coming off nicely. That was missing in the last seasons. Guys can keep counter-attacking, the guys are hungry. You can see that intensity.”
