IPL 2025: Special Coincidence Hints At Mumbai Indians' Possible Title Win

Mumbai Indians (MI), the most successful franchise in IPL history with five titles, struggled at the beginning of IPL 2025.

Mumbai Indians (MI) have staged a remarkable comeback in the Indian Premier League 2025 after a shaky start. With a fifth consecutive win, secured against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, MI has strengthened its position in the playoff race.

Adding to the excitement is a special coincidence that hints Mumbai could be on track to win the title this season.

What's the special coincidence?

MI, the most successful franchise in IPL history with five titles, struggled at the beginning of IPL 2025.

However, they have now found their rhythm, winning five matches in a row. Remarkably, every time Mumbai Indians have achieved five consecutive league wins in the past - in 2010, 2013, 2015, and 2020 - they have gone on to lift the trophy.

With history on their side, MI is once again seen as a strong contender for the championship.

Convincing win over Lucknow Super Giants

In the 45th match of IPL 2025, played at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, Mumbai Indians took on Lucknow Super Giants. After being asked to bat first, MI set a target of 216 runs. In reply, Lucknow was bowled out for 161 runs in 20 overs, handing Mumbai an easy 54-run win. This win not only extended MI's unbeaten run but also moved them to third place on the points table, strengthening their playoff prospects.

After six unsuccessful attempts, Mumbai Indians finally defeated Lucknow Super Giants in a league-stage match. Prior to this, their only win against LSG had come during the Eliminator of IPL 2023.

Mumbai Indians' Longest Winning Streaks in IPL History

6 consecutive wins – 2008

5 consecutive wins – 2010 (Finished as Runners-up)

5 consecutive wins – 2013 (Champions)

5 consecutive wins – 2015 (Champions)

6 consecutive wins – 2017 (Champions)

5 consecutive wins – 2020 (Champions)

5 consecutive wins – 2025 (ongoing)*

MI captain Hardik Pandya, after win over LSG, said: "The momentum which we had, we are carrying it forward. Everyone is clicking. The kids created the atmosphere for us, we did it for them, so very glad...This competition is very tough, can't get carried away. We need to play good cricket, always prepare for the next game and keep up with the momentum going forward."
