Shikhar Dhawan Returns to Lead PBKS

Entrusted with the captaincy of Punjab Kings for the IPL 2023 season, alongside head coach Trevor Bayliss, Dhawan plays a crucial role in guiding the team towards their goal of winning the coveted IPL trophy. Punjab Kings, along with Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore, are among the three teams that have yet to clinch the IPL trophy even once.

Punjab Kings, historically known for underperforming in the IPL, are determined to reverse their fortunes in the upcoming 2024 edition. Despite reaching the semi-finals in the inaugural edition and the finals in 2014, PBKS have frequently faced early exits in the league stages.

The PBKS squad comprises a mix of experienced veterans and promising talents across batting, all-rounders and bowling departments. With the likes of Liam Livingstone, Sikandar Raza and Kagiso Rabada, PBKS possess a strong lineup capable of shaking up the competition dynamics. However, there are challenges ahead, particularly in strengthening the Indian contingent and maintaining Dhawan's consistency throughout the tournament.

The Punjab Kings made significant strides at the IPL 2024 Auction held in Dubai last December. The Mohali-based franchise made noteworthy investments, spending a hefty sum of 11.75 crore to secure the services of former Royal Challengers Bangalore player, Harshal Patel. Additionally, they acquired South African batter Rilee Rossouw for 8 crore and England pacer Chris Woakes for 4.2 crore, further strengthening their squad for the upcoming season.
