The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Auction commenced at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19 (Tuesday), witnessing significant spendings from various franchises. Gujarat Titans (GT), champions of the IPL 2022 and runners-up in 2023, are undergoing a transformation post the departure of their influential captain, Hardik Pandya, who moved to Mumbai Indians. With eight players released before the auction, including Pandya, the Gujarat Titans aim to strategically fill crucial spots.

In a notable acquisition, Gujarat Titans secured Tamil Nadu all-rounder Shahrukh Khan for Rs 7.4 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. A bidding tussle unfolded between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans, culminating in Shahrukh Khan joining the Gujarat franchise. Initially part of Punjab Kings in the IPL 2021, Shahrukh Khan was released at the conclusion of the 2023 season.

However, stealing the spotlight was the young left-arm pace sensation from Australia, Spencer Johnson, becoming Gujarat Titans' most expensive purchase of the day. He made a significant mark in the previous Big Bash League and the Major League Cricket for Los Angeles Knight Riders before his international debut for Australia. GT secured his services after missing out on Mitchell Starc, acquiring him for a whopping Rs 10 Crore, despite his base price being Rs. 50 lakh. A bidding duel between Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans concluded in the latter's favour.
