MS Dhoni Breaks 11-Year-Old All-Time IPL Record Previously Held By Pravin Tambe

MS Dhoni clinched an all-time IPL record as he guided CSK to their second win in IPL 2025.

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets and ended Lucknow’s three-match winning streak on April 14 (Monday) in Match 30 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The win also brought an end to CSK’s five-match losing run, with skipper MS Dhoni playing a pivotal role. Notably, Dhoni also broke Pravin Tambe’s all-time record which was created 11 years ago.

Dhoni, 43, was named Player of the Match for his all-round impact as captain, wicketkeeper, and finisher — and in doing so, he also broke Pravin Tambe’s long-standing IPL record after 11 years. At 43 years and 281 days, Dhoni became the oldest player in IPL history to win the Player of the Match award, surpassing Pravin Tambe’s previous record of 42 years and 209 days, which he set against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in May 2014.
