IPL 2024 Playoffs Qualification Scenario For MI: Mumbai Indians Can Still Qualify For IPL 2024 Playoffs

If Mumbai Indians manage to win all their remaining matches, they can reach a maximum of 12 points. However, typically for a team to enter top 4, seal a playoff berth, requires at least 16 points.

IPL 2024 playoffs qualification scenario for Mumbai Indians (MI): Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners Mumbai Indians (MI) face an uphill task as they navigate through a tough position (10th) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Points Table, intensifying stakes for their IPL 2024 playoff qualification.

Following their recent defeat in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Shreyas Iyer's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday (May 3), Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) currently find themselves at the bottom of IPL 2024 Points Table, occupying the 10th position.

With only three wins, eight losses, and a total of 6 points earned from 11 matches, MI's current standing in IPL 2024 reflects a challenging situation. Additionally, MI's net run-rate stands at a disappointing -0.356.

Given these stats, MI's chances of securing a spot in IPL 2024 playoffs seem exceedingly slim. It's fair to suggest that Mumbai Indians, "still mathematically alive", are virtually out of IPL 2024 playoffs race.

Can Mumbai Indians (MI) still qualify for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Playoffs?

Mumbai Indians are on the brink of being officially eliminated from IPL 2024 playoffs race. They have three more matches to play in the league stage of IPL 2024. MI, in their upcoming matches, are scheduled to face Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 6, Kolkata Knight Riders on May 11, and Lucknow Super Giants on May 17. Losing even one of these three matches would offically knock MI out of IPL 2024 Playoffs race.

If Mumbai Indians manage to win all their remaining three matches, they can reach a maximum of 12 points. However, typically for a team to enter top 4, seal a playoff berth, requires at least 16 points.

For MI to stay alive in IPL 2024 Playoffs race with 12 points, no other team in IPL 2024 standings should surpass the 12-point mark.

Currently, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have already reached 12 points. Hence, for MI to have a chance, at least two of these franchises would need to lose their remaining matches.

Assuming the above scenarios unfold favorably for MI, the next crucial aspect would be improving their Net Run Rate (NRR).

MI's current NRR stands at a disappointing -0.356, which is very low. The five-time IPL winners won't be able to secure a playoff berth if the NRR of other 12-point teams surpasses MI's.

MI would need to focus not only on winning their remaining three matches but also on improving their NRR significantly to enhance their IPL 2024 playoff chances.

Taking into account the likelihood of the aforementioned scenarios not likely to happen, it's reasonable to conclude that MI's aspirations for IPL 2024 playoffs are almost over!
