Bizarre Delay In WPL 2024 Match As Sprinklers Turn On In MI Vs GG Fixture, Picture Goes Viral
WPL 2024: Sprinklers turned on during MI's chase vs GG leading to a wet outfield that caused a delay in the match at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday (March 9).
The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 fixture between Gujarat Giants (GG) and Mumbai Indians (MI) witnessed a stoppage due to a bizarre reason. The match which was being played at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium halted after sprinklers turned on with two overs left in the match resulting in a wet outfield which needed to be dried before the game could be resumed
After a brief halt, the match did resume with defending champions MI managing to beat GG by 7 wickets and a ball remaining. The incident happened during MI's chase who needed 191 to win. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur of the defending champions initially took her time before going berserk to finish with an unbeaten 95 off 48 deliveries. It was her innings that eventually took Mumbai over the line with nearly a 10-minute delay caused by the sprinklers getting switched on after the end of 18 overs.

Mumbai Indians Go Top Of The WPL 2024 Points Table
As a result of win over Gujarat, MI are now top of the points table with 10 points from 7 matches. Delhi Capitals (DC) occupy the second place with 8 points from 6 games while Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with six points from as many matches occupies the third spot. Gujarat Giants (GG) only have a solitary win against their name after 6 matches and consequently found themselves at the bottom of the points table with 2 points.
UP Warriorz (UPW) are very much alive in the race to Playoffs with same number of points as RCB but have played a match more than Bangalore. The top three teams will head to the Playoffs while teams that finish fourth and fifth will be eliminated from the business end of the competition.
