This is the third win for Sunrises Hyderabad in the ongoing season. The dominant win moves them up to the third spot in the IPL points table.
SRH's emphatic win came on the bank of blistering half tons by their openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow and a brilliant spell of spin bowling by star leg spinner Rashid Khan.
Meanwhile, Kings Eleven Punjab succumbed to their fourth straight loss in the season. They continue to languish at the bottom of the table with just a solitary win.
Chasing a massive target of 202 runs, KXIP started with a poor show as opener Mayank Agarwal was run out in the second over of the innings. The next batsman Simran Singh managed to get only 11 runs before being dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed in the fifth over. Down the line, skipper KL Rahul was then joined by Nicholas Pooran on the field but their partnership also did not last long as the former was sent back to the pavilion by Abhishek Sharma. Glenn Maxwell was the next batsman. Poorna then shifted gear and struck four sixes and a boundary to Abdul Samad in the ninth over to complete his half-century off just 17 balls. Pooran, along with Maxwell, took the team over the 100-run mark in the 11th over but in the same over, Maxwell (7) got run out. KXIP continued with their poor performance as Mandeep Singh and Mujeeb Ur Rahman also failed to impress. Khan then handed SRH with the much-needed breakthrough as he got hold of Pooran (77) in the 15th over. Khan, on the very next delivery, dismissed Mohammed Shami, who was given LBW. In the end, SRH were just two wickets away from the win and the bowlers easily took the team over the line as KXIP were all out on 132 runs. After winning the toss, SHR's Jonny Bairstow (97) and David Warner (52) put up an opening stand of 160 runs leading to a total score of 201/6 wickets in 20 overs against Kings XI Punjab at the Dubai International Stadium. That's that. The mammoth opening stand was broken only in the 16th over by Ravi Bishnoi after which KXIP did well to restrain SRH down to a score just over 200. Bairstow was denied his second IPL hundred by Bishnoi in the same over. KXIP took six wickets and conceded 41 runs in the last four overs. While wickets fell around him, Kane Williamson stood strong and was unbeaten on 20 off 10 balls. The only noteworthy stand outside of the opening partnership was between Williamson and Abhishek Sharma who put up 24 for the sixth wicket.Jonny Bairstow is adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding innings of 97 off 55 deliveries 👏👏#Dream11IPL pic.twitter.com/38tPJw1BaD
