IPL 2020 Set To Be Held In UAE, Confirms Governing Council Chairman Brijesh Patel: Report

The IPL 2020 was scheduled to begin in late March this year. However, it had to be called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected millions across the world.

New Delhi: While the news of the World T20's postponement was disappointing for millions of cricket fans around the world, all is not lost as the Governing Council Chairman Brijesh Patel on Tuesday lifted the curtains from suspense around the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said the mega event is set to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). ALSO READ | BCCI Seeks Government's Approval In Next 14 Days To Finalise IPL 13 Plan After ICC Postpones 2020 T20 World Cup As per the latest development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has zeroed in on UAE and has written to the government seeking permission to hold the tournament in UAE and are awaiting the go-ahead. The IPL 2020 was scheduled to begin in late March this year. However, it had to be called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected millions across the world. Over the months, BCCI has been looking for alternatives in order to host the cash-rich tournament later in the year in India. "The dates have not been finalised as yet and will be decided at the (next) IPL GC, which will be held in the next seven or ten days," Patel said. It is to be noted that the postponement of T20 World Cup paved the way for BCCI to carve out a window for the IPL. As per the preliminary plan in place, the league will start on September 26 and conclude on November 07 or 08, with the entire season to be held in the UAE.
