IPL 2021 Player Auction: Over 1000 Players Register; Everything You Need To Know

The auction for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to take place on February 18. A total of 1097 players (814 Indian and 283 overseas players) will be involved in this year's auction. IPL has given this information on its official Twitter handle. The BCCI had recently clarified that every effort is being made to ensure IPL 14 takes place in India. The 13th season of IPL was played in the UAE due to Coronavirus.

Smith was released by Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the IPL auction and Sanju Samson was appointed the new captain of RR. Another Aussie great, Aaron Finch was released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore this year.
 
Glenn Maxwell, who played poorly for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020, will also be up in the auction this year. The Aussie star all-rounder will too be an interesting player to watch out for as he had scored a lot of runs in both ODIs and T20s against India after the IPL.

In January this year, all the teams submitted their list of retained and released players to the BCCI. RCB's had released the maximum number of 10 players, while Punjab had released 9 players from the team.
 
Chennai Super Kings, who failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time in IPL 2020, released its 6 players and reposed confidence in their experienced players.

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians retained the most players. Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals in the final match of IPL 2020, for a record fifth time to win the IPL title.
 
The players list for Indian Premier League (IPL) auction incorporates 207 capped, 863 uncapped and 27 Associate players.

Capped Indian cricketers: 21 
Capped International cricketers: 186
Uncapped Indian cricketers: 743 
Uncapped International cricketers: 68 
Uncapped Indian players who have played at least 1 IPL match: 50 
Overseas uncapped players who have played at least 1 IPL match: 2 
Associate: 27 players
