Quoting a source from BCCI, PTI has reported that it will be very difficult for Jadeja to wear gloves and bat due to his injury. Jadeja will be away from the game for at least three to four weeks.
Jadeja scored an unbeaten 28-run knock for India in the first innings of the Sydney Test. Due to his innings, Australia had a lead of less than 100 runs. Jadeja was injured by a lethal short pitch delivery from Mitchell Starc. After this, he had to take help of physio. However, Jadeja continued batting then and returned unbeaten.
Jadeja once came on the field for fielding but later went back as his thumb looked swollen. The physio also tied a bandage to provide some relief to him. Jadeja tried throwing some balls to access his injury but when the management felt his condition was not right, he was taken for scans. The BCCI had said that Jadeja's left hand thumb has been hurt and he has been taken for a scan.
So far in the Test series against Australia, India has lost the services of Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and KL Rahul due to injury. At the same time, Ishant Sharma could not come for the tour due to injury in IPL. Captain Virat Kohli had to leave for home after the first Test for the birth of his first child. Jadeja's injury is a big blow for Team India. In this series, he was doing great in fielding, with ball and bat as well.
In the Sydney Test itself, Rishabh Pant also got hurt but it was revealed in the scan that his injury is not that serious. He has not suffered any fracture. This news is a bit of relief for India.
