Liverpool turned the things around in the second half as they were awarded a penalty inside the first 90 seconds, which was calmly converted by Alexis MacAllister. However, City were given a further headache, as their star goalkeeper, Ederson, who committed the foul on Darwin Nunez inside the box, which led to the referee awarding a penalty to Liverpool, incurred an injury during the process and was later subbed off, as Ortega came in between the sticks for the City side.
Another moment of calamity came for City when their defence seemed shaky, and were lethargic on the ball, as they were playing down the time in-order to come away with the point. Kevin De Bruyne, who was visibly frustated during the time on the pitch, was fuming once Pep Guardiola decided to substitute him, and the duo exchanged some words on the touchline and were talking on the bench moments later.
Speaking of the incident, Pep Guardiola said the following in the post-match interview:
“I’m happy to see that! I like it if he’s upset, it’s good. He’s happy now. I knew what we were missing, we missed keeping the ball”.
However, Jurgen Klopp didn't hold back and took a jibe at referees for an on-field incident between Doku and MacAllister.
“He can only hit the ball because his foot is right there. They say: hit the ball. But if the ball is not there he kills him, the foot has nothing to do with it! The referee will find something, all the other as well [to excuse it]”, said the Liverpool manager.
