FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 Winner: Olga Carmona's Strike Helps Spain Beat England To Clinch Their First Title- WATCH
FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 Winner: Olga Carmona's first half goal proved to be the difference between both sides as Spain held on to a 1-0 win over England to emerge as the World Champion.
FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 Winner: Spain beat England 1-0 in the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 final at Stadium Australia in Sydney on Sunday (August 20). While England were being looked upon as slight favourites heading into this fixture owing to their better head-to-head record both overall and in their recent meetings with the Lionesses securing a win over La Roja on their way to a European Championship victory, Spain saved some of their best football for the summit clash even though the dramatic fixture saw some major errors from the Spanish side including a penalty miss.
While it was Spain captain Olga Carmona's 29th minute strike gave Spain the lead, England did have their moments in the game but could not find the equaliser. Carmona, meanwhile, had not scored a goal for her national side before the semifinal but scored the decisive goal in semifinal and the final to help Spain win their first-ever World Cup title. It was also the first final for England too but their wait for their elusive FIFA Women's World Cup title continues.

The result implies Jennifer Hermoso will breathe a sigh of relief after missing out on a penalty in the second half. There was an appeal from hand ball from the Spanish side after which they were even awarded a penalty but Hermoso's effort was saved by Mary Earps who had a great game on the night even though her team failed to win the match.
Lauren Hemp and Lauren James probably had the best chance of scoring in the finale for the Lionesses but neither could find the back of the net losing out on the opportunity to script history. Earlier, Sweden had beaten Australia to clinch the third place at the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023.
