Delhi High Court Stays Shaji Prabhakaran’s Removal As AIFF General Secretary

Shaji Prabhakaran had been appointed as the AIFF General Secretary on September 3 last year at the first excecutive Committee meeting of the new dispensation led by Kalyan Chaubey.

New Delhi: In what comes as a significant development in Indian Football, the Delhi Hight Court stayed the implementation of All India Football Federation's (AIFF) decision to sack Shaji Prabhakaran from the post of secretary-general for "breach of trust". It was a single-bench of justice comprising of Subramonium Prasad who issued an interim order to this effect. The same has been confirmed in a report carried by news agency PTI.

"Yes, the Delhi High Court passed an order of stay," Prabhakaran's counsel K Parameswaran told PTI. However, the same report has confirmed that no one representing the AIFF came. It is pertinent to note that Prabhakaran was axed from the high-profile post on November 7, fourteen months after he was appointed as the secretary-general of the highest football governing body in India.

While Prabhakaran's sacking was announced, the breach of trust which was categorically mentioned was not disclosed by AIFF. Prabhakaran had been appointed to the post on September 3 last year at the first excecutive Committee meeting of the new dispensation led by Kalyan Chaubey. Prior to his appointment to the national federation, he served as the Football Delhi president. He resigned from that post before taking charge as the AIFF secretary-general on September 6, 2022.

Meanwhile, Prabhakaran took to social media to wish luck to all the participating clubs in the Indian Women's League (IWL). "All the best and good luck to participating clubs in #IWL For the first time India will have a proper women’s league. A proper league structure will have a ripple effect on the development of women’s football. Happy to have played some role in it," he wrote.
