Argentina defeated Chile 1-0 tp continue their excellent run in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualification CONMEBOL. A first-half goal from Julian Alvarez was enough for the reigning World & South American champions to seal all three points, as they now travel back home to host Colombia, in what will be a repeat of the Copa America 2024 Final.

Lionel Messi did not start the match, given, head coach Lionel Scaloni has to manage thweworkload of the legendary footballer, and also the fact that Argentina have already qualified for the global event next year.

The result now extends their winning run to four games, and have now 11 wins in their 15 matches. The 1-0 win also ensured that Argentina will now finish the CONMEBOL Qualifiers on top of the table.

The nearest challengers are Ecuador and Paraguay, who are on 24 points, and will go maximum at 33, while Argentina ahready have 34 points.

Rough Start For Ancelotti, Tough Times For Uruguay

While one South American giant is enjoying it's most delirious period in the history, the other two giants are in search of form and glory. Brazil have been shambolic in this edition, with them languishing at 4th place with 22 points, but can go to 5th if Colombia manage to beat Venezuela.

The 5-time World champions appointed Carlo Ancelotti as their manager last month, but his first outing at the helm ends in a dull & disappointing goalless stalemate away at Ecuador.

While for Uruguay, the tension continues to rise, as they are now winless in their last 4 matches (defeats against Argentina and Paraguay; draws against Brazil and Bolivia).

The 2-0 defeat against Paraguay now puts them in a danger of missing out on the automatic qualification spots, if Venezuela somehow manage to beat Colombia.
