Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Spot In BGT 2024-25 Under Scrutiny? Former India Star Reminds His South African Tour Wasn't Good

Former India wicketkeeper-batter reminded that Yashasvi Jaiswal’s South Africa tour wasn't good and he could face a stern Test in Australia.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is one Indian cricketer whose stocks have risen dramatically ever since he has played his first match for India. It is not long that the left-handed batter will establish himself as a regular in all the three formats, having already sealed a place in the Test and ODI setup. His form in red-ball cricket has been nothing short of exemplary with him being the highest run-getter for India in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle- 1217 runs from 11 matches at a staggering average of 64.05.

The southpaw might have only played 11 Test matches but has already registered three big hundreds- a testimony of his hunger to perform at the highest level. He has not given it away after breaching the three-figure mark but has instead gone on to convert it into a bigger score, in excess of 150. While his form in home has been superb, his performance in South Africa wasn't quite as good and with India set to tour Australia later this year, former India cricketer Parthiv Patel has put Jaiswal under scrutiny based on that South Africa tour.

"If you see his numbers, when someone performs so well in India, you are eager to see how he performs overseas. His South African tour was not that good, so the eyes will be on how he performs in Australia (during Border-Gavaskar Trophty 2024-25). You have scored runs in Indian conditions, but if you score runs there as well, you get the stamp of an all-round batter," Patel said on Colors Cineplex.

Parthiv Patel Has Shown Improvements In The Last Year: Yashasvi Jaiswal

However, the ex-wicketkeeper batter acknowledged that Jaiswal has shown improvements in the last one year.

"We have seen the improvements in the last one year, especially the way he played the short balls against Bangladesh. Although it was only Bangladesh in Chennai, they had pacy bowlers, and he played the short ball very well," he said.

"He is understanding the conditions very well as to which shots he can play on which pitch, and where he has to defend. If you talk about pedigree, Yashasvi Jaiswal has everything. The only thing now is that you will get five Test matches in Australia and you just have to make your numbers even better. You are at No. 2 (most runs in the current WTC cycle), you have scored 1200 runs, so the expectations will definitely be there. However, there is no doubt that he will perform well there also," Patel said
