World Cup 2019: India become third team to record 50 victories in WC

With their win over Afghanistan, India became only the third nation in Cricket World Cup's history to register 50 wins.

Virat Kohli-led India edged out Afghanistan by 12 runs in a nerve wracking encounter at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Saturday. India's nail biting win over Afghanistan came in the dying moments of the match as seamer Mohammad Shami took a breathtaking hat-trick in the 50th over of the game to turnaround the game in the dying moments. With their win over Afghanistan, India became only the third nation in Cricket World Cup's history to register 50 wins. India joined Australia and New Zealand as the third cricketing nation to accomplish 50 wins in the show piece event. Australia who are five time World Champions have won the most matches at the showpiece event with 67 wins in 90 matches. With 53 wins off 84 matches, New Zealand is second on the list. India kicked off their World Cup campaign with a thumping win over South Africa and defeated title contenders Australia in their second game. Their third match against New Zealand got abandoned due to bad weather. India, who are also the tournament favourites defeated arch rivals Pakistan in the high-octane clash for their 4th victory of the World Cup 2019.
