Virender Sehwag's Sons In DPL 2: One Draws Lakhs, Other Goes Unsold

A promising batter who represents Delhi at the U-19 level, Aryavir has made headlines for his consistent performances at the domestic junior level.

The Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 auction delivered a rollercoaster of emotions for the Sehwag family. Both sons of former Indian opener Virender Sehwag entered the auction, but only Aryavir Sehwag, the elder son, found a buyer. Vedant Sehwag, the younger of the two, remained unsold.

Aryavir Sehwag Snapped Up for ₹8 Lakh

Central Delhi Kings secured the services of Aryavir for ₹8 lakh after a competitive bidding round.

A promising batter who represents Delhi at the U-19 level, Aryavir has made headlines for his consistent performances at the domestic junior level. He narrowly missed a triple century in 2024, scoring a brilliant 297 against Meghalaya.

Vedant Sehwag Remains Unsold

In contrast, the auction began with Vedant Sehwag’s name, but unfortunately, none of the franchises placed a bid for him. Despite playing junior-level cricket, the younger Sehwag didn’t attract interest this time around.

Top Picks in DPL 2025 Auction

Apart from Aryavir, the auction featured several high-value signings:

Simarjit Singh emerged as the most expensive player, picked by Central Delhi Kings for ₹39 lakh.

Nitish Rana was bought by West Delhi Lions for ₹34 lakh, while veteran pacer Ishant Sharma joined the same franchise for ₹13 lakh.

The Missed Ferrari Moment

Back in 2015, Sehwag had famously promised a Ferrari to his sons if they surpassed his Test score of 319 runs, even in school-level cricket. When Aryavir fell just 23 runs short, scoring 297, Sehwag cheekily tweeted, “Well played Aryavir, but missed the Ferrari by 23 runs.”

"Yes, my kids know I have made some humongous scores in Test cricket. So I have told them, if you cross that 319-run mark even in school cricket, I will present you a Ferrari," Sehwag had said in 2015.

"Well played @aaryavirsehwag. Missed a Ferrari by 23 runs. But well done, keep the fire alive and may you score many more daddy hundreds and doubles and triples. Khel jaao," the former India opener had posted on X.
