Why South Africa Haven't Qualified For Super Eights In T20 World Cup Despite Hat-Trick Of Wins

T20 World Cup 2024: South Africa have won three matches in a row but have still not qualified for the Super Eight stage of the competition.

In the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, each team is set to play four matches in the group-stage. In the Group D, South Africa have won three of their three matches and are only scheduled to play one more match. However, despite them having a 100 per cent track record, the dynamics of the group are such that the Proteas have still not qualified to the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup.

South Africa beat Sri Lanka in their first match of the T20 World Cup 2024 before registering a win over Netherlands in their second game and Bangladesh in their third. That means while the Proteas have six points, Netherlands and Bangladesh have two points each, Sri Lanka and Nepal have zero points.

If South Africa were to lose their last match against Nepal, they would remain at six points. That means Nepal could get to six points by beating Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. However, these two teams are not the only ones who can get to six points, Netherlands' two remaining fixtures are against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and winning them both can get to six points.

That means if three teams remain tied on six points, it will be the Net Run Rate (NRR) that will decide which two teams will proceed to the Super Eights from Group D.

In what could be one of the biggest upsets in the group-stage of the competition if Pakistan fail to get through to the Super Eights. The Men in Green have succumbed to defeats against USA and India in their first two matches and now need to win their remaining matches while also hope that USA end up on the losing side in their remaining matches.
