This decision comes after Mumbai secured a spot in the semifinals following a drawn quarterfinal clash against Baroda at the BKC Ground, where they advanced based on the first-innings lead.

After facing challenges with form and a recurring back-related issue, the 29-year-old Iyer was absent from India's squad for the last three Tests against England with several reports claiming that he had been dropped. Consequently, he also missed Mumbai's quarterfinal match, along with all-rounder Shivam Dube.
